A 15-year-old boy was shot in the arm by a relative during a family outing Wednesday at Long's Park, according to Lancaster city police.
Investigators said the teen was squirting a "super-soaker type" water gun shortly after 4 p.m. when James Lawoyne Thedford Sr. shot him, hitting the boy's right wrist.
Thedford and others took the boy to an area hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Capt. Kent Switzer.
The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the vehicle that was used to take the teen to the hospital, according to investigators.
Police said Thedford had a permit to carry a concealed firearm.
Switzer declined to say how the teen and Thedford are related. He said the investigation is ongoing.
Thedford, 35, who lives on Jennings Drive in Lancaster Township, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and three counts of reckless endangerment.
He was being held Wednesday night for arraignment.
I bet he wont “supersoak” that relative again. And I thought my family reunions were bad,,,,,
It’s gotta be said. Never bring a squirt gun to a real gun fight.
They both Sons of Barack, I bet.
It's like a 1950s western -- don't kill your opponent, just disarm him with a perfect shot.
Obviously you don't disrespect James Lawoyne Thedford Sr. and get away with it.
This moron needs some away time.
I’ll bet alcohol was involved.
Alcohol. Perhaps. But you can’t underestimate the stupidity factor.
I know it’s obvious, but I have to say it anyway - never take a water gun...
I wonder which part of “If you don’t stop shooting me with that damn squirt gun, I’m gonna bust a cap in your ass!” the punk didn’t understand?
