Australian Olympic swimmers in hot water after gun photo

(CNN) -- Two Australian Olympic swimmers who posted pictures on Facebook of themselves brandishing weapons have been ordered to take them down by the country's swimming authorities.

The image, taken in a gun shop in Santa Clara, California, showed Nick D'Arcy with two pistols standing next to Kenrick Monk who is holding two shotguns across his chest, according to a Friday report in Australia's Herald Sun. The swimmers were training in the U.S. ahead of the Olympic Games in London later this year.

Swimming Australia said in a statement that it does not condone "the posting of inappropriate content on Facebook, Twitter or any social media platform."

There’s a multitude of things the PC western world needs to fear more than guns in the hands of peaceful law-abiding citizens.

The thing is Nick D'Arcy is not a peaceful law-abiding citizen. He's a violent thug with a criminal conviction for assault occasional grievous bodily harm - in US terms, a felony. He was lucky to escape with a suspended prison term.

His crimes - committed against a fellow athlete - lead to him being dropped from Australia's Olympic team prior to Athens, and from being allowed to participate in the World Championship. He has been very lucky to be allowed a second chance and for this reason, he is expected to be exceptionally careful with the way he behaves. There probably would have been some backlash anyway over these photos whoever was in them, but the fact that it is him makes it far more controversial.

I sooooooo could not live in Australia, or Canada, or Great Britain. Canada has moved in the right direction though, having dropped the gun registry.

I am exceedingly grateful to have been born into the ONLY NATION IN THE WORLD with a guaranteed constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I know of no other nation in the world where it is the God given right has been codified into the law. Certainly not France. Certainly not Germany or even Switzerland.
