Channel 4 journalist Alex Thomson says Syria rebels led me into death trap
Daily Telegraph ^ | June 9, 2012 | Daily Telegraph

Alex Thomson, chief correspondent for Channel 4 News said the incident happened on Monday in the Syrian town of Qusair, about half an hour's drive from the battered city of Homs.

Thomson said he, his driver, a translator, and two other journalists were trying to return to government lines when their rebel escort led them down what he described as a dead-end in the middle of a "free-fire zone".

"Suddenly four men in a black car beckon us to follow. We move out behind," he recalls.

"We are led another route. Led in fact, straight into a free-fire zone. Told by the Free Syrian Army to follow a road that was blocked off in the middle of no-man's-land.

"At that point there was the crack of a bullet and one of the slower three-point turns I've experienced. We screamed off into the nearest side-street for cover.

“Journalists” go into a war zone....get shot at....some get killed....Then they don’t understand why.

There doesn’t appear to be a ‘good’ side in Syria. I hope we stay out of it!

He made it out alive. Not quite the death trap he describes.

That's OK. Journalists are like Doritos - they'll make more.

If they don't like it, they should stay home and let the arabs knock each other off.

These idiots have to propose a meme where there are “good guys” on one side, whilst the other side just HAS to be “good guys”.

In MIDEAST REALITY, it’s usually bad guys fighting other, less organized, bad guys.

Journalists (Liberal Types) have no clue what is happening in any war zone because they have preconceived notions as to who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

They are wrong 100% of the time.

They "Smart" Journalists stay out of such war zones because they "KNOW" you really can't trust either side in a war.

The Journalist that stay home and report on the STUPID JOURNALISTS (remember - they are "liberal journalists") and they report the facts and not suppositions. They live and the others either die, are injured or captured, and (sometimes) they are lucky and get out and report their "almost" ambush and death.

We need to send more of those "Liberal Journalists" to places like Syria, etc so we don't have to listen to them tell us how great Obama is.

I hope they all kill as many of each other as possible, women and children included. Nits make lice.

POST SCRIPT

I know of what I speak as a jeep full of reporters (3 vehicles behind us, had 3 killed and one almost fatally injured. One Aussie, One Canadian, One German and One with the AP (US).

They were unarmed and had "PRESS" written ALL over their Jeep. Windows, doors, rear deck and on their jackets.

WE (on the other hand) were armed to the teeth and made great display of our numerous weapons. (WE) passed the same Viet Cong only moments (less than 10 seconds I would say) and they took out everyone in the "Press" Jeep.

We stopped. Fortunately a few seconds later a couple of Army jeeps with 50 caliber mounted guns and the Saigon Police showed up. We mounted up and continued on and finished our mission without narry a scratch.

Holy cow! Is that a personal anecdote or a war story you read someplace?

Nits make lice.

If only they were that insignificant. It's more like lion cubs turn into adult lions. Except it was Sunnis, not lions, who slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Christians and animists in Sudan.

Sometimes they go hiss before they go boom.

the sort I was thinking of either go low order boom, before they go hiss, or they just go hiss.

Saddam used them on the Kurds. They are called "Sarin", "Mustard", stuff like that.

I'm not the only one thinking that way either

The same folks are thinking about other BAD THINGS too

That was a personal anecdote that happened during the height of the TET offensive.

To finish the story of that day - We were out to extract one of our guys who was holed up in a zone where the majority of that days hand to hand fighting was occurring.

The National Police Chief was already on scene when we got to our destination. We went in and found that there were 3 guys pinned down with no weapons. As we came out we heard a “crack” from a pistol just a few yards from us. We all reacted and turned our weapons on the source.

It ended up being the Police Chief and a body dropped to the ground at the same instant I focused on what was happening. The Vietnamese police reacted to us reacting to them. I had met the Chief a couple of times before (3 time actually) and he recognized me and he signaled for his men to lower their guns and I did the same for our guys.

He smiled and pointed at me and said “you number 10 G.I.” which is more or less a back handed compliment.

We got in our Truck with all of our guys and headed back to the base.

It wasn’t until many years later when I saw a copy of the picture on the cover of NewsWeek of the VC being shot did I realize that the guy that was between me and the Chief was a photographer.

You are absolutely correct. Syrians are not to be trusted even by blood relatives.

Lice are not insignificant. They are lethal disease vectors. They spread the Black Death in the Middle Ages and, later, spread the typhus that killed much of Napoleon’s army in his catastrophic Russian invasion. They are more dangerous, repulsive, and insidious than lions, thus a perfect way to describe Mudslimes.

Boo hoo,wa wa!! Journalists get the big bucks to report the news with a slant and cry when they’re in harms way. Our guys have been doing it for the last 20+ plus years, many with multiple tours of duty and get paid peanuts.
