You folks are getting uppity about such a small paperwork snafu...I'm sure a little lubrication in the right beaurocrat's palm would speed things along fine. Nobody will die, at least no one rich or connected...

It's the Chicago way, why should anyone be surprised?

No matter how ill someone is, they aren't entitled to anyone else's liver....If people don't want to donate organs, thats their business....organs have to be taken from people still alive, until some doctor pronounces them non-salvable...Don't trust such doctors...I plan on using up all my organs and they can go with me into the ground. sorry.....

I did sign up for bone marrow but they take you off the list at 65. Once I had to go to the hospital for a more sensive test, not close enough....you don't have to be butchered to donate bone marrow and your life is not put on the line by some doctor..

This past week there was a sad case of a sister that donated one of her kidneys to her brother...she died and he was devastated....said if he thought it would have killed her he never would have even considered it.....

You are right that you are not forced to donate a body part, but it is your right to do so if you choose. Most are taken from those who were killed in auto accidents around here. And it effects TN, MS and AR as we are so close together in millage.

Unlike with kidney’s you can’t live with out a liver.

I like you am over the age and have to many auto immunes for them to want any thing I have.

What killed her...staff infections or something similar? You must under go intensive testing and mental evals before you become this type of organ donor.

We each have choices we make in life, if this is one you choose please help. Even if you don’t please help, this is 0’care in action you know and we have to nip it in the bud quickly as romney is only going to TWEAK it not REPEAL IT.

I had to look up the case of the kidney donor dying because a young friend of ours recently donated a kidney to her older sister.

That case was really medical malpractice.

The problem is that the same care is not given to the donor that is given to the recipient. When our friend donated her kidney, the doctor told her that he would be careful to make the incision, small, near the bikini line. That doctor didn’t show up and she got the on duty surgeon, who used a giant 5” vertical cut. So, now she has a huge scar, while her sister who received the kidney has barely any scar at all.

The liver wars of Memphis are forcing longtime friends, colleagues and mentors to choose sides.
And it isn't pretty.
Each side has a logical, defensible position in an increasingly nasty tussle about how best to structure a lifesaving liver transplant program in Greater Memphis.
Good people, going at each other hammer and tongs over organ transplant protocols.
And all the while, the list of patients desperately in need of a lifesaving liver transplant only grows longer. An increase in the rate of liver damage due to the prevalence of hepatitis C, plus the ravages of alcoholism and and an aging population, will only drive up the demand for transplants.

This is not a Memphis problem. it is a national and world problem.

Sorry, but I am one who can't blindly protest, comment or support this sort of appeal because not enough information is provided.

I would first of all make it clear that I, and my entire family, are subject to exactly the same rules and protocols that apply to everyone else, and when a resource, any resource, is limited, there must be clear priorities established. No other factor is as critical as this.

If you are not prepared to discuss ethics, social and political philosophy and the Tragedy of the Commons don't bother me. You are not equiped to argue your position.
Blind emotional striking out literally cannot solve the problem.

The "Commons" as referenced to above is as applicable to health care, and public expenditures of all kinds as it is to natural resources, and failure to recognize this can only lead to certain collapese of the entire economic and social system for everyone.

The increase in the rate of liver damage due to the prevalence of hepatitis C, plus the ravages of alcoholism and illegal drug use must be at the bottom of the priority list. Most of us recognized this as children and chose not to make the stupid choice.
And don't' even go there. All sufferers of hepatatis C are NOT members of the lowest socio-economic group.
As fot the aging population, at least the portion of the patients not belongng to the drug-using and alcohol abusing group, they should be higher on the list, to the extent that the victim has spent a lifetime of useful work, a member of the producing net, taxpaying majority.

The children, and the early adults who have been educated and demonstrated adult discipline and inclination to be productive members of society, desrve to be at the top of the list.

Nature, and the tragedy of the commons is unemotional, relentless and pitiless.

There are limits to everything, whether everyone agrees to that reality or not.

Death is a part of life where each of us individually determine where we rank on that list. That's an essential part of freedom. Without personal responsibility and accountability, freedom is meaningless. The majority of innocents should live their lives with a clear conscience.

I am sure all the low IQ types will instantly start listing the obvious exceptions, i.e. the insane, the illegals, the "refugees," etc. Save that for later discussion.

Calling a congressman to get things done? How 20th Century! Nope, a little $2,300 “donation” to Obama fro AmeriKKKa will get it done!

Know all to well about doctors who are inept or do unnecessary surgeries to defraud Medicare. I was the victim, I now have reduced hearing in 1 ear and constant pain in the other. Told it was the only way to cure Vertigo/Menieres..at my age you don’t get sudden onset of them like I did, there are under lying causes, mini strokes or pinched neck nerves...that was my case.

Have an internist who does NOT read medical histories either, so I get drugs I can’t take. Doctors do not keep up with side effects it seems. I send them back to the pharmacist as refused.

Also had to pay for a tummy tuck when the GYN who did my Hist messed my stomach up and I kept getting chronic fungal infections under the uneven painful 2.5 inch bulge he left..I am not over weight...119. The anti-fungal meds stopped working this year., 3 trips to the ER for them was enough. General surgeons do not do ab reconstructions, even for medical conditions around here. And Plastic’s only do them as vanities...it cured 3 health conditions I’ve had since 1998. So in that I am well pleased, will be a month on the 16th. Have a great doc in her.

You were the one who clicked on the thread, you could have passed over.

Memphis was the only local in the entire state to receive such restrictions. The rest of the state was left alone. Memphis serves Miss and Ark as well. I provided the links, for people to read and help if they choose.

We had a man who didn’t smoke, drink or was living a bad life style he needed a heart transplant (in our Sunday School class), took him 3 years to get it...he is now back at work. Not all diseases are the patients fault you know.

Even Steve Jobs chose Memphis for his medical treatment. Did he live a horrid life style? Some people contract diseases because some one else had it and didn’t inform them they did. This is especially true of people leaving prison, the spouse or partner is NOT informed of the disease.

Is the system fair, NO, sometimes those who need it the most get passed over, because some one had money. Does it need policing YES, but not by the 0bamanation administration. All you will see getting a transplant are the ones with $$ going to the head of the line.

ONLY thing free in Memphis is St. Judes. Even out of state and country children are taken in and usually cured or put into remission.

How evil of me.
Mags Sanger probably liked tomatoes, too.

Twelve?
Or just senile?

Don't be silly!

But thank you for proving my point.
Incidentally, unless you are exchanging private messages, you are addressing all members of Free Republic who choose to visit.
I will be the judge of whether it concerns me.

Perhaps you can get Obama's private police to visit me for participating.
Or the Public employees Union thugs.
Or the New Black Panthers.
Or the American Parasites Union.

Or anyone one else who thinks there is no limit to the amount of taxes the working (net) tax paying American can bear.

Or maybe you can get Jim Robinson to sustpend me.

This is the kind of abuse to people and our medical care system that will happen all over the country now that Washington will be micromanaging health care. Who has the political clout in Washington thrives and whoever doesn’t dies.

Division of people is the name of socialism’s power game. Washington has no problem controlling who lives and who dies. It has no heart and no brain. It feeds on power.

now that is just plain silly, every one of FR has the FREE choice which threads they read. I did NOT force you to read it. You made the choice.

The only one I’d sic 0’s private police on is some one ‘docs’ included committing Medicare or Tricare Life FRAUD. And they won’t do a durn thing about it. I know I’ve tried, not even a gop senator will touch it. So I just warn people about the sadistic SOB.

Frankly, doctors scare me to death. I have a littany of horror stories that I could tell you, but the worst was a time that I got a call from an emergency room doctor at JFK hospital in Cherry Hill, NJ. The doctor told me that my mother had just been brought into the hospital and had suffered a brain stem stroke from which she would not recover and wanted to remove the breathing tube and put her on an IV morphine drip.

I said no, not until I got to the hospital (I live in WA state) and saw her condition for myself. The doctor argued that it was unnecessary, that they only had limited medicare dollars and that those dollars should be saved for younger, more vital people. I said that I didn’t care.

So, that was Sunday and I didn’t get to the hospital until the next day. When I got there we found my mother in ICU with a breathing tube and her arms and legs restrained, tied to an IV drip and bruises up and down her arms. She wasn’t unconscious, but her eyes were closed. When I told her that I was there, she wiggled, almost convulsed in response, but couldn’t move. I called the nurse and she told her open her eyes and she responded, I asked the nurse what was going on, why is she so bruised? The nurse responded that she had been fighting them, trying to pull out the IV and the breathing tube.

I said, so this brain dead woman is fighting you? She doesn’t want to be intubated, but she’s brain dead and can’t think for herself, so you just forced the tube down her throat? She just looked at me. I said get the doctor down here now.

She didn’t, but the next day my mother was out of ICU and on her way back to the nursing home. She hadn’t had a stroke, she had fallen on the stairs and hit her head.

Then there was the doctor that diagnosed my husband’s bone tumor as tendonitis. The tumor was allowed to grow for another nine months, to the point of almost causing a stress fracture, before they finally did an x-ray. The problem is that my husband looks so healthy and no doctor ever suspects that there is anything seriously wrong with him.

Just senile, not stupid enough to take you seriously. Every mass killer in my lifetime used exactly the same logic. Just don't hasten my demise, it will come soon enough.

I recognize Hillary Care when I see it, and this time the sneaky bustards have imposed it while we argue about it. The supremes will never undo this even if the hold the whole thing unconstitutional, it is a de facto done deal. You will see that the seeds have not only been planted they are firmly rooted, and not likely to be pulled up.
