Study: Children Fare Better In Traditional Mom-Dad Families

Two studies released Sunday may act like brakes on popular social-science assertions that gay parents are the same as — or maybe better than — married, mother-father parents.
“The empirical claim that no notable differences exist must go,” Mark Regnerus, a sociology professor at the University of Texas at Austin, said in his study in Social Science Research.
Using a new, “gold standard” data set of nearly 3,000 randomly selected American young adults, Mr. Regnerus looked at their lives on 40 measures of social, emotional and relationship outcomes.
He found that, when compared with adults raised in married, mother-father families, adults raised by lesbian mothers had negative outcomes in 24 of 40 categories, while adults raised by gay fathers had negative outcomes in 19 categories.
Findings such as these do not support claims that there are “no differences” between gay parenting and heterosexual, married parents, said Mr. Regnerus, who helped develop the New Family Structures Study at the university.
Instead, “children appear most apt to succeed well as adults when they spend their entire childhood with their married mother and father, and especially when the parents remain married to the present day,” he wrote.
Mr. Regnerus‘ study of 2,988 persons ages 18 to 39 — including 175 adults raised by lesbian mothers and 73 adults raised by gay fathers — marks the first research from the new dataset, which initially included some 15,000 persons.

This goes along with the study that showed children do better when raised by stay at home mothers. It’s strange we live in a society where is the obvious is so scorned.

It’s because libs live in a fantasy world and are doing everything possible to use the government to force us to go along with their fantasy, in this case the one that says “men and women are the same and interchangeable”.
Was this redundant study funded by taxpayer dollars?
What it boils down to is that you and your kids are not a well heeled , left leaning , politically active lobby with ties to the media and Hollywood. All valuable assets if you happen to be a leftist politician.
Always remember leftists crave power and will dedicate their lives to it. Conservatives are more in tune with General Washington. They don't want power but will grudgingly accept it when they feel their country needs them.
I agree completely. It’s the concretazation of the Marxist fantasy which unfortunately claims victims of America’s children.
My wife and her fellow kindergarten teachers could have told them that and saved a lot of grant money. They have been saying it for years. The other group of children that fail are the kids of single parents with revolving door boyfriends or uncles living with the parent just long enough for the child to learn their name, frequently they don’t, or the mother to get pregnant.
I appreciate the info and the study, as often those pushing homosexual adoption etc. use the other, tiny, narrow study to push their (totally wrong) agenda.
Children need both. married. parents. throughout their lives, or there will be a negative result of one magnitude or another.
We all can’t help it if we lose a spouse to death or illness or even divorce, but, we can stop the push towards homo parenting. It is bad for kids from the start.
Similar to a broken leg. If you break a leg somewhere through the race, you are not going to do as well, although you can often continue and get there. But why deliberately break your leg before the starting gun goes off? Give the kids the best start you can, and do all you can to preserve the best situation for them.
And how much money did we spend for this “common sense” study?
Oh, that’s right, it’s not for the common sense crowd....it’s for the highly educated ones that are bereft of common sense....they needed it to be educated.
I’ve seen some of this first hand. I had a sister-in-law who was married to a boozing, marijuana using, womanizing jerk. She was his second wife. She had two sons around the time I had my kids. She tried to be the perfect mother and have a perfect home. She ended up in rehab and decided she was actually a lesbian (no surprise after he bad treatment by the men in her life.) Not long after, she moved in with her new lover. Both her sons ended up juvenile delinquents, jailed multiple times and on drugs. We lived in a small town. A sister-in-law was a college instructor married to a very prominent cardiologist. One of their children is a doctor, the other a sociologist, both married with children. Quite the compare and contrast within the extended family. Doesn’t take a genius....
Indeed. Before we know it, both Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are bound to be criminalized.
The way of the family is the way of God. What more needs be said?
