Fifty years after three prisoners broke out of Alcatraz through a spoon-dug tunnel and launched a raft made of raincoats into the San Francisco Bay in a bid for freedom, a lone U.S. marshal is still looking for them.
Whether inmates Frank Morris, 35, John Anglin, 32, and his brother Clarence Anglin, 31, made it to safety on June 11, 1962, or sank to a watery grave is not known.
U.S. Marshal Michael Dyke, the only official investigator still assigned to the case, has an educated guess.

Well if I couldn’t catch them in 50 years, I’d say they drowned too.

No one has never escaped from Alcatraz. And no one ever will.

Prisoners successfully escaped Alcatraz prison using an inflatable raft made from rain ponchos.
plausible
The makeshift raft crafted by the MythBusters team did indeed reach the shore. Listed as “Plausible” because no evidence has ever been found suggesting the prisoners survived the actual incident, and personal effects washed up later on shore, indicating that the men probably failed to navigate correctly and drowned in San Francisco Bay. However, a portion of the scale tests (cut for time but later shown in “MythBusters Outtakes”) did show that these belongings could have been released by the successfully escaped prisoners and washed up where they were found through strategic use of the Bays tides to throw the authorities off their trail.

If the purpose of incarceration is rehabilitation, it would appear it was successful.

What a great job, where can I find one just like it?
Wait by a phone that never rings for 8 hrs.
Drink Coffee.
Eat donuts.
Go home.
Next day, the same.
Once a month, copy last month's progress reports and drop them in the mail.

I visited Alcatraz in 1978 while Escape from Alcatraz was being filmed. Seeing actors dressed as prisoners added an air of realism. However, when I saw the film, I was disappointed at its inaccuracies.

“Escape from Alcatraz”, starring Clint, put a visit to Alcatraz on my bucket list.
I went there with the g/f in 2008. It was interesting. Smelled like sh*t (tons of bird droppings), but overall cool.
I thought it was funny that they had a loop of “The Rock” playing on large TV’s in the gift shop.

I don’t know that one. Will look into it. As a rule, Lee Marvin made good movies.

They sleep with the fishes. They may well have made it. Jack Lalanne swam that stretch in his 40s...in handcuffs!
