Jun 11, 2012 Jeb Bush Says His Father and Reagan Would Lose Out in Today’s GOP

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush today said that both Ronald Reagan and his father, George H.W. Bush, would have a hard time getting nominated by the more conservative voters in today’s Republican Party.

“Ronald Reagan would have, based on his record of finding accommodation, finding some degree of common ground, as would my dad, they would have a hard time if you define the Republican party, and I don’t, as having an orthodoxy that doesn’t allow for disagreement, doesn’t allow for finding some common ground,” Bush said, according to Buzzfeed, which reported Bush’s giving the comments at the headquarters of Bloomberg LP in New York City.

Bush, a much-discussed contender to be Mitt Romney’s running mate, said he sees the ultra-conservative and partisan standards of today’s GOP as “disturbing,” but called “this dysfunction … temporary.” “It’s just a different environment left and right,” Bush said.

During his “dad’s time and Ronald Reagan’s time,” Bush said, they “got a lot of stuff done with a lot of bipartisan support,” according to the report, adding that Reagan “would be criticized for doing the things that he did.”

Bush railed against both sides, but blamed President Obama for much of the clashing.

“His first year could have been a year of enormous accomplishment had he focused on things where there was more common ground,” Bush said, arguing that he believed Obama made the “purely political calculation” to run a more partisan administration.

This is the latest in a series of comments Bush has made recently either criticizing his party or expressing policy points openly breaking with the presumptive GOP nominee. Bush separated himself from Romney on the issue of illegal immigrants already in the United States.

Jeb actually showed he had no core principles when he didn’t rescue Terry Schiavo.

The Bushes were NOT “two of the worst Presidents on record” Billy Clinton was awful, Kennedy was awful, Jimmah Carter was awful, Obama is dismal, FDR was awful, the first Communist President.

Yes, of course people can and should exercise the 1A rights... but how many times is Jeb going to run that knife in the backs of the people trying to make a stand vs. Obama. How about he direct some of that fire at the dems???

I HATE the Bushes. George Senior betrayed the Reagan Revolution and did his damn best to try and shore up the collapsing Evil Empire. Bush II spent money like a drunken sailor and got us bogged down in a fruitless nation building catastrophe in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And now THIS idiot! The Bush people on this poll were saying was THIS jerk was a real CONSERVATIVE Bush - and NOW he is making statements which can only HELP Obama - and to a left wing media organ no less.

I wish all the bushes would go to hell. Every last one of them.

Bush I’s legacy was a Bill Clinton victory and Bush II’s legacy was an Obama Presidency.

None of this family from Barbara the Gun Hater on down to Jeb and his offspring would be fit to clean Reagan’s shoes.

They are a clan of Northeastern Yankees masquerading as real Texans.

Have you been paying attention to what the liberals inside the GOP have been doing to the party?

Compromise and accommodate are code words for 'let the democRats run the show.' And they have been for(more or less) the last hundred years.

And it is your brilliant idea that those in the GOP that are closely aligned with the democRats should be ones making all the philosophically/ideologically decisions for the party?

All you care about is that your team wins, not whether a particular philosophy/ideology reigns supreme?

And the decline of the western world continues.

If Romney picks this jerk as a running mate, I may seriously go third party or stay home. He’s a total ass.

“Ronald Reagan would have, based on his record of finding accommodation, finding some degree of common ground

Unlike your Dad or what passes for a Republican today, Reagan found his accommodation from a position of strength not one of weakness and lack of spine..............

Hey Jebbie?

STFU, you pathetic sack o' RINO-sh*t, go look up Judge George W. Greer and see if he still has your balls floating in formaldehyde on his trophy shelf, Ronald Reagan would NEVER have let a pipsqueak, legally blind backwater probate judge like Greer get away with murdering Terri Schiavo via judicial fiat. The Gipper would have personally led the Florida National Guard and the FDLE to rescue Terri where she was being denied food and water, and condemned to death, because he had GUTS, something you didn't have, and never WILL have!

And to those few remaining BushBots who are quick to say "what about freedom of speech?", this here is FREEDOM OF SPEECH too, so STAY OUT DA BUSHES!

There is a great divide in our country and it's dividing conservative groups. Fear of socialism sweeping our states and federal government has us drawing lines in the sand on each other. We need to unite or we will be swallowed individually by what we seek to defeat. We can fight our own little battles once the war is won.

In the eyes of certain FReepers, Reagan was a RINO - he cut and ran from Lebanon, gave amnesty to illegals, and raised taxes (even though he CUT taxes). In their eyes, HE’S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

In the eyes of certain FReepers, Jesus Christ was a RINO - He befriended and forgave tax collectors, advised people to pay their taxes to the government, and consorted with known prostitutes. In their eyes, HE’S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Which begs the question, why have we ended up with Bishop Willard from Planet Kolob as the GOPe nominee? Because in the case of every conservative candidate, the cry went out: YOUR GUY’S JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

The FReeper’s Definition of Conservative: “Whatever it is, it sure as hell ain’t YOU!!!”

Hey Jebbie, What happened to that accomodation of your dad to agree to TAX INCREASES in exchange for SPENDING CUTS?

What happened to Boehner's agreement to increase the DEBT LIMIT in exchange for SPENDING CUTS over ten years?

Guess what Jebbie, THEY DIDN'T HAPPEN! WHY? Because LIBERALS, be they Republicraps or Democraps, believe that ACCOMODATION means adopting LIBERAL beliefs!

How is your good buddy, DINGY HARRY REID, doing with the BUDGET? Oh, that's right, we haven't had a BUDGET in over three years! Without a Budget, there are no cuts, ONLY THE BASELINE SPENDING INCREASES THAT ARE MANDATED BY LAW!

The 21 Democrap Senators due for reelection this November should be the PRIMARY focus, but of course, they are not. Such as effort would upset too many of the LIBERAL REPUBLICRAPS!

While you're right that some people on the extreme left are purists, the vast majority are not. So Jeb Bush isn't held in high regard around here? Well, he reaps what he sows, and he sows big government accomodation with a Democrat Party that is far more radical and openly leftist than ever before.

No doubt Jeb campaigns as a conservative, just like all the Bushes, but he's no 80% friend. Is there any doubt that all the Bushes hold you and I and our core beliefs in complete derision? You just have to know these Bushes, Romneys, McCains, etc., have no intention of ever ending abortion, taking control of the borders, expelling illegal immigrants to any great degree, or slashing any significant programs.

As I wrote before, at what point are ANY of these Republicans, supposedly the party of small government, going to do anything to actually reduce government???? These jerks can't even cut off funding to NPR. Now maybe Jeb Bush isn't as bad as the totalitarian statists currently running the Democrat Party, but he himself admits he's no ally of mine.

It's not like I have high expectations here. I really don't. All I ask is that the moderate/centrists toss a bone my way once in awhile instead of doing everything they can to kiss up during elections and then flip me the bird once they're in office!
