Is The Romney Campaign Getting In David Axelrod's Head?
BuzzFeed ^ | 6/11/2012 | Zeke Miller

Posted on 06/12/2012 12:41:02 AM PDT by tellw

Obama adviser David Axelrod offered some clear signs that Mitt Romney’s attacks on him are taking their toll, twice referring to reaction he’s received from Romney operatives in Boston in a 75 minute discussion at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan Monday night.

Axelrod, the most visible face on the calm, cool, and collected Obama campaign had been rattled at a press conference two weeks ago on the steps of the Massachusetts State Capitol blocks from Romney headquarters when he faced bubbles and chants of “Solyndra.”

President Barack Obama’s senior adviser and political guru responded to moderator John Heilemann’s poll of the room that all but four people in attendance voted for Obama in 2008 by saying: “We have a very nice room here…not like those folks up in Boston.”

Later, joking about hypothetical Romney trackers in the audience recording his every word, Axelrod added, “At least they’re letting me speak.”

Axelrod’s unprompted asides suggested Romney’s in-person and social media guerilla campaign is taking hold — at least in the cubic foot of space above Axelrod’s shoulders.

Beyond the from the now-infamous press conference, the Romney campaign has deployed campaign staffers to infiltrate Obama campaign events to tweet about empty seats and spin the president’s comments while he’s still in the room. On Twitter, Romney operatives swarm over nearly every Axelrod television appearance to point out flaws and needle him over inconsistencies.

Romney aides frequently brag when Axelrod grows frustrated with their efforts. “We’re in his head,” one staffer said triumphantly after the Massachusetts press conference.

It remains to be seen whether the Twitter wars or surrogate fights will have any impact beyond the tweet-obsessed Acela corridor.

But the Romney effort is part of a larger effort to energize the base by showing the campaign has fight — something conservatives doubted McCain had four years ago. Also, Boston’s theory goes, if they can get in Axelrod’s head, the vaunted Chicago operation might just slip-up.

Say what you think about Romney, but I just love his campaign’s attacks on 0bama’s & Co. It’s obvious that—contrary to some Freepers’ hope—Romney attacks 0bama fiercely. This is not to say that they’ll use all opportunities to attack them. In fact, I don’t think they should. I’d like them to pick the battles that can inflict as much harm on Zero campaign.

Yes, it’s getting to them. They can’t stand up to the truth.

A lot of folks in this administration are starting to
look over their shoulders, they have played fast
and loose with their positions and are now realizing
that they may have to pay a price for it.

I agree. Romney is hitting him hard and the hits will get harder.

I don’t like a lot of what MittCare did in MA, but he’s clearly fighting. Far more than McLame ever did. Will grudgingly give due props...

Obama is down to Axelrod as chief surrogate?

He’s pathetic. Hope to see him more. :)

He is indeed showing some courage in these attacks.

So very different from the limp campaign that McCain waged.
(Dear God please forgive me for how much I despise that ‘man’)

I also feel that Romney will NOT roll over and play dead in the face of CERTAIN dem vote fraud. He will take it all the way to the Supreme Court....even in the face of certain rioting in the streets when he does so.

I would however enjoy this so much more if it was Newt on the battlefield! OMG! what might have been! ... sigh...

McLame was never really fighting for anything. He likes Obama. Romney, on the other hand, has a goal to achieve. First Mormon POTUS. He will fight with fire and brimstone, and his church will rally with every last breath. They want this badly.

And save the best for last. About mid October start hitting hard and don't let up. . . . . .

I agree Newt was my 2nd choice. Herman was my first. Just FYI my tag line has been the same since before we knew who the Republican nominee was. No way will I not vote. Vote for ZERO? There is not enough money in the world or a girl pretty enough for that to ever happen. . . . . . .

McLaim is one piece of crap that I would not urinate on if his guts were on fire.
War hero? Why? Because he got captured? That doesn't make one a hero.
He graduated last in his class at the Naval Academy. He should never been allowed in the aviation program. Only because his daddy was an Admiral was he allowed to fly. He got several crew members killed and severely injured because he was inept as a pilot.

Amen!

I would have paid a $1,000 to watch that/those debates. Newt would have left Dear Leader sniveling, bumbling, stammering, puddle of jello, melting on the floor.

One can only hope that Mitt (and his handlers) see the writing on the wall and keep growing their backbones.

Of course there will always be the Establishment RINO, wusses (and McCains) who will counsel caution, "civility" and "respect" for the office and candidate, not too mention the fear of being labeled "racist." Screw them; damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead.

All the Obama campaign has to do is demonstrate how Romney would have supported bailing out Solyrnda, based on his record in Mass.

I am still reading “the Amateur”. It’s opened my eyes even more on what a dud we have as Commander in Chief. We CAN NOT afford to make this mistake AGAIN. We can not vote based on skin color alone. BHO is unequipped, incompetent and insecure. Go get the book!

As for Mitt, he needs to charge like a rhino’s balls are on fire. All he needs to do is expose BHO’s weaknesses and incompetence. The people already know. Gloves need to come off. Now is NOT the time to be a p***y!

That is the truth. Whatever we might not like about the guy, he’s no wuss when it comes to campaigning. (The Primaries proved that.) He wants to win, unlike the sorry-ass McCain campaign in ‘08. The folks on Mitt’s campaign staff have ba**s.

With the usual disclaimer that I gave $$ to Cain and voted for Newt, my wife kept saying Romney was sneaky and ruthless, which was what our side needed after McLame. Well, it appears she’s right. Romney has let his surrogates keep Zero on the defensive while he appears to “stay above it.”

Definitely Romney is getting into Axlerod’s head. Axlerod can’t believe how liberal Romney is and is shocked out of his wits. Liberals think the same and Axlerod and Romney believe the same things.
