In the latest volley in the ongoing battle over Florida voter lists, the Justice Department has sent a letter stating it will take legal action against the state, citing violations of voting rights laws.
"Because the State has indicated its unwillingness to comply with these requirements, I have authorized the initiation of an enforcement action against Florida in federal court," said Thomas Perez, assistant attorney general for civil rights.
The lawsuit comes after the department began questioning the legality of the state's so-called voter purge program, which would remove names from Florida's voter rolls months before the 2012 presidential election, when Florida will play a key role as a battleground state with a large chunk of electoral votes.
Florida's move to eliminate non-eligible voters from its lists began after the state's Republican governor, Rick Scott, pressed the state to identify non-U.S. citizens who had registered to vote illegally.
Using information from Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the state identified more than 100,000 names of non-eligible voters that could potentially be on the lists illegally.
Critics say the plan unfairly targets minorities and paint it as an attempt to dissuade typically Democratic voters from going to the polls.
While the Justice Department notes that states can legally remove non-eligible voters from their lists, the letter Monday argues that the Florida program does not comply with legal standards, has "critical imperfections, which lead to errors that harm and confuse eligible voters."
The letter states that the Florida program improperly uses the information collected from old driver's license applications.

I can just imagine what Zero is going to do with his Executive Orders and Pardons on his way out.
I predict he will Pardon every scumbag at GITMO and that will not even shock anyone compared to what he does prior to that.

When we take the Whitehouse, the Senate and the House, one of our first tasks should be to indict, convict, and imprison those democrats that have been attempting to undermine our legal elections and then we need to resume purging illegal aliens from the voter lists and imposing harsh penalties for perpetrating or facilitating voter fraud.
The rats openly support voter fraud. They don’t even hide it and they are proud of it.
I think all voter rolls should be purged every three years.
It’s not a big deal having to register legally.
This should make make the Dem-Neo-Fascists wet their panties.
My concern is if the DO(in)J finds some Lefty hack judge to stop the purging pending a decision on the suit.
Case closed. No case.
This is the only way these people can send Obama back to the White House.
Chris Wallace, on his Sunday show, really ‘grilled’ Rick Scott on this issue to the point of nausea. Wallace kept insisting there weren’t enough frauds, in Scott’s sample, to make the voter purging worth while.
CNN's great unbiased reporting once again.
Money quote from this excellent article:
“These are all worthwhile goals because bogus ballots cast by foreigners, impersonators and frauds are ballots stolen from honest Americans.”
I think each and every voter should have a picture of them taken in the polling place each time they vote, and digitally stored with the name they presented to vote. This would not take long and would not be expensive. With face-recognition software it would make it relatively easy to spot those who vote more than once and/or vote in more than one location. It would also provide nice evidence to be used for conviction in cases of vote fraud. Vote fraud is disenfranchisement of honest citizens.
Their paranoia is showing. Such desperation surely won’t go unnoticed, even by the Kool Aid drinkers.
That maybe a good thing for those wishing to actually clean up the voter roles in the states. A suit maybe able to show how many non citizens there are on the roles and then bring into question why shouldn’t they be purged.
Good... the Fed will lose this one. That is what the Governor has hoped that they would do. Fast track and the voter fraud game will be in retreat.
