I have a CCL. I would NEVER consider carrying a weapon openly. It’s not about protection when they do this.
It’s a stupid, stupid, stupid idea.
They can’t leave well enough alone. Just to be able to carry should be enough.
Did I mention, it is a stupid, stupid idea.
My dad retired from the detroit mounted division after 25 years....he open carried all those years. When he retired he concealed carry...it was for defense not for being a smart ass show off..
There is no legitiment reason to open carry, like you say except to yell out LOOK AT ME I HAVE A GUN. Then the bad guy can take you out first...it then becomes LOOK AT ME I HAVE A GUN AND AM DEAD.....
I want the guy with the concealed weapon close to me....
Consider this, until age 21 he is not allowed to carry a hand gun nor obtain a concealed carry license. So he put his long gun over his shoulder and went to town, legally.
Glad you have a CCL, unfortunately this citizen is not allowed to have one, so concealed carry is not an option for him. He has already been made a second class citizen by the state.
They cant leave well enough alone. Just to be able to carry should be enough.
Obviously you have missed the point, he could not carry. The police, the state and you feel that he cannot carry. You are all upset that he did carry just like the police were upset. If he could carry then the police would not have arrested him.
Tactically, I prefer (and routinely use) concealment. However, I am working for an open carry law in Texas, because I object to being "illegal" should I fail to conceal.
Example: when I drive, I prefer to hang my suit/sport jacket in the back of my vehicle -- for comfort. I object to being technically in violation of the law when I walk from the driver's seat to where I can don my "cover".
Besides, here in Texas, the summers sometimes get too hot for "extra" clothes....
Just because you want to conceal, don't deny others their own choice!!!
To me, your position sounds like "Its a stupid, stupid, stupid idea."
