Cynthia Dill and Charlie Summers to face Angus King in Maine Senate race
The Washington Post ^ | June 12, 2012 | Rachel Weiner and Aaron Blake

Posted on 06/12/2012 9:29:36 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

The two major parties chose their candidates for Maine’s open Senate seat, but in this unusual race, both will face an uphill battle against popular former governor Angus King, an independent.

State Sen. Cynthia Dill beat former Maine secretary of state Matthew Dunlap and two other candidates in the Democratic primary. She ran as a progressive Democrat fighting Gov. Paul LePage (R).

On the GOP side, current Secretary of State Charles Summers beat out state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin and four others. Poliquin ran to the right of Summers and lost despite outraising his rival and getting help from the outside group FreedomWorks.

Polls give King a big lead over all of his potential rivals early on. Democrats are not planning to invest much in this race; instead they are hoping to King will caucus with them if and when he joins the Senate.

Republicans are making no such wager, painting King as a closet Democrat and hoping he and the Democrat will split the vote enough to create an opening for the GOP.

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R) is retiring.

Charlie Summers has an intersting background, a veteran who ran for Congress in the heavily Democrat First District and ran well ahead of party lines, though he didn’t win. Cynthia Dill is a rabid left-winger.

Interesting point- third party candidates usually fade as election day approaches.

Third party candidates may fade, but since King has already won twice as a liberal Independent, that doesn’t necessarily apply here. Obviously he’ll try to run as a “moderate” (left-wing, but not Stalinist left).

Great! Summers won!

He has a solid background - military/private sector/political - and he’s personable. He speaks without histronics or denigrating his party opponants. He has a steady calmness that people pick up on...and he has a track record of taking on the enemy, no matter the odds.

http://www.sunjournal.com/news/maine/2012/06/12/summers-wins-gop-nomination-maine-us-senate-race/1209552

excerpt:
“Summers missed most of his last political campaign because he was in Iraq with the Navy Reserves.

He says his top priorities are to cut spending and to reduce the national debt. He supports the balanced budget amendment, line-item veto and repeal of President Barack Obama’s health care reform.”

In his early fifties, he has grown children and a little boy - a ‘surprise’ following his return home from Iraq. Obvioulsy, he and his wife didn’t think of him a a ‘punishment’.

He got my vote. First ray of sunshine for some time.

“Sen. Olympia Snowe (R) is retiring.”

Oh, No! How will the democrats get by without her?

I’m glad you sound pleased with our nominee. I didn’t keep up with the crowded primary.

Summers ran 7 points ahead of McLame in the first district when he ran for that in 2008.

Ironically we need the democrat (a lock for third place) to do well. This can be a repeat of the 2010 Gov race.

I would really like to hang on to this one (or pick it up as it were since Snowe is pure crap). That witch better endorse Summers too or else she should be shot out of a cannon.

FYI the DSCC didn’t issue their normal congratulations press release for rat nominee Dill. We need the feminazi vote to come through for her.

Maineee...

Does he have a shot @ it?

Will he get on Levin, Bennett, Hewitt etc for money bombs?

Will Angus and the liberal loon be fighting for the same vote, and can Summers get the level headed Indies to squeak one out?

That’s why I like the idea of instant runoff voting for GOP primaries. Or at least every state having runoffs so people don’t get nominated with 29%, which is silly.

The runner up Polquin was endorsed by Freedom Works, the Concerned Women of America and something called Maine Conservative voice. He’s pro-life.

While pro-life news site called Summers “pro-abortion” in press release about the election result he himself says in a newspaper interview:

Question: “Do you support a woman’s right to an abortion?”

Answer: “I support a woman’s right to an abortion in the case of rape incest, and life of the mother.”

Rats appear to be giving Dill the cold shoulder. I’ve read they “are focused on taking back the state legislature”, I sincerely hope they fail in that endeavour. Winning both houses was very nice.

Hopefully Dill can play the vagina card and get women pissed off and voting for her so she’ll take enough votes from King whom I am demoting to Squire cause he’d be Harry Reid’s squire. (Feel free to use that Charlie Summers, as long as you pay me ;p)

She’s already playing the “King is playing games not saying what party he’d support” card.

Both should hammer him because he’d be the least influential member of the Senate unless he was the deciding a vote, an unlikely scenario that would only last 2 years anyway.

There was actually a crappy tv show about that called “Mister Sterling” starring the guy who played Bush, Josh Brolin. He played the independent son of a rat Ex-Governor of Cali who was appointed Senator by the Governor who mistakenly assumed he was a democrat (yeah, sure) and he supported the 1 seat rat majority only after blackmailing his way onto key committees.

I actually have more respect for an out and proud commie like Dill than piece of crap leftist douches like Snowe and Squire who preach the “moderate” gospel like it’s some cult religion.

BTW Here’s the full Summers thing , actually it looks like a filled out questionnaire and not an interview.

http://bangordailynews.com/candidate/charles-e-summers/

Question: Do you believe climate change is happening? Do humans contribute to it? What should Congress do to address the problem?

Answer: “No, however, we all have a responsibility to be good stewards of the environment.”

More answers

” I support the Paul Ryan plan to roll back government spending to 2008 levels and freeze spending for five years.”

“K-12 education should be handled at the state level. The federal government has proven inept.”

“I support school choice and vouchers.”

Might this guy actually pretty good? These answers make him look like gold next to Scott Brown let alone YellowSnowe.

All of the Republicans running are more conservative than Olympia Snowe is. I know that Bruce Poliquist and Scott D’Amboise were the most conservative in the field, but otherwise, I don’t know much.

Well that’s over now.

It appears he’s pro-life with the rape exemption, his answer indicates he doesn’t want it to be an issue in the race.

His answers in that questionnaire impressed me. I don’t know the last time we had a decent Senator from Maine.

Let’s get his ass elected and keep that jag-off Angus the Squire out.

When Snowe was challenged in the primary before dropping out, Summers remained neutral. Now Snowe appears to be ignoring him, though she’s given him a perfunctory endorsement.

Well at least the witch hasn’t endorsed King.

She should open up her wallet and not be petty if she really supports him.

Interesting that he didn’t endorse her in the primary.
