MILLER: Breaking doors and the Constitution(DC)
The Washington Times ^ | 12 June, 2012 | Emily Miller

While Army 1st Sgt. Matthew Corrigan slept inside his Northwest Washington home, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) response teams were gathering outside. Dozens of SWAT and explosive-ordnance-disposal officers spent hours preparing a full-scale invasion of the residence in the middle of the snowstorm of the century. It was not an operation to protect the public from a terrorist or to stop a crime in progress. It was to rouse a sleeping man over a secondhand report that he might have an unregistered gun.

It all started a bit before midnight on Feb. 2, 2010. Sgt. Corrigan had called the National Veterans Crisis Hotline for advice on coping with nightmares from his year in Iraq hunting for improvised explosive devices. Without his permission, he says, the hotline operator dialed 911 and reported Sgt. Corrigan “has a gun and wants to kill himself.” The drill sergeant told me he said nothing of the kind and his weapons were stowed away to avoid theft.

Around 1 a.m., the police knocked on the door of Tammie Sommons, Sgt. Corrigan’s upstairs neighbor in the row house. Ms. Sommons had lived there since 2008 with her three roommates and, in that time, had become a close friend of Sgt. Corrigan‘s. She often walked his dog, Matrix. “One officer told me that Matt called a suicide hotline and was about to kill himself,” she told me in an interview. “I said that was impossible, he wasn’t that kind of guy. I told the police I see him every day and would know if he was suicidal.”

MPD officers told Ms. Sommons that someone had reported the smell of gas coming from Sgt. Corrigan’s apartment. “I told them that there was no gas in his apartment - it was all electric,” she recalled.

Will the police be held accountable for their violations of their oaths of office? I wonder if a Grand Jury, armed with the Constitution, and a mission to investigate oathbreaking by officers or politicians, would be a viable way to hold office holders responsible for their oath.

At the present, I see no mechanism to enforce the oath of office.

How many combat vets reading this will think twice about using mental health services.

The only thing they didn’t do to this gentleman was shoot his dog. Why did they have to ransack the place, destroy his luggage, and leave the stove on? Retribution for not letting them in?

Personally I would expect nothing different from the police in Washington DC.

DC is noted for their anti-gun attitude for the potential victims of gun activity from the criminals. They certainly do not want any citizen to be able to defend themselves from Washington’s more criminally minded denizens.

What else can you expect from a city that uses traffic camera’s as a way to extract funds from people who work in the city, but live in Md. and Va. A false commuter tax that adds up to millions.

A city run by a crook like Gray with Marion Barry on the city council and the racist Eleonor Holmes Norton as a shadow Congressperson.

The 1st. Sgt and his dog are lucky to be alive. My reccomendation is that he move to Virginia, as Marylands gun gestapo is nearly as bad as DC’s.

Let the law suits begin! Where do I contribute to his legal fund?

He's fought the enemy overseas, now he needs some help fighting the domestic enemies here at home, the one who have corrupted everything good about America, including our police departments, and turned it all against us!

Maybe we need to use the same tactics he used overseas.
