Women Don't Belong in Ranger School
Wall Street Journal ^ | 6-12-12 | Stephen Kilcullen

The United States Army is debating whether to admit women to Ranger School, its elite training program for young combat leaders.

Proponents argue this is to remove a final impediment to the careers of Army women. But the move would erode the unique Ranger ethos and culture—not to mention the program's rigorous physical requirements—harming its core mission of cultivating leaders willing to sacrifice everything for our nation.

The Army's 75th Ranger Regiment traces its roots back to World War II, when it won acclaim for penetrating deep behind Japanese lines. Founded in 1950, Ranger School teaches combat soldiers small-unit tactics and leadership under extreme duress. It pushes men harder than any other program in the Army's curriculum.

Competition to attend the course is fierce, with about 4,000 men eligible to attend each year. Only about half graduate. Of those, only 20% make it through without having to retake various phases.

For decades, completion of Ranger School has been the best indicator for determining which young men can handle the enormous responsibility of combat leadership

Now if you could just get an armed sentry to hold still while you got a good grip on him with your uterus, you’d have a cogent arguement.

"...The very bottom line for the military is its goal is to win - everything else is secondary..."

That IS getting right to the bottom line, isn't it. Having someone with enhanced promotion opportunities is going to be a cold comfort when there are 50,000 of our military tied up in a Bataan somewhere.

When I was a young man, I was 6’2”, 190lbs and if I say so myself, a hell of an athlete. I held a lot of athletic records, some for a very short time and some for many years. I still hold a couple of obscure ones which are over 40 years old.

Despite that, I would not have even tried to complete Ranger or any other elite training. Actually I was drafted and failed my physical. I am partially deaf from shooting without any protection when I was just a kid.

The reason I would not have even tried was I would have known I could not pass. I was always terrible in endurance events and that would have been totally necessary.

Now despite not being good enough to pass elite military training, I am pretty sure I could throw a shot or discus or run the 100 meters faster than any woman. Can’t be totally certain on the shot or discus as the weights I threw were heavier. I am sure about the hundred meters tho.

So, was it, “I went through reserve Marine basic. Same thing guys did. I passed. No special privileges.”

or was it:

“We weren’t in the same class as the guys.”

Please tell me again how your 110# will kick Marine Force Recon ass.

At what?

Don’t doubt your story, there are plenty of pussies, guys who got out of the fleet as fast as they could, even though they had wings. However, you said ‘any’ Marine pilot which gets you the LOL bs call.

Thanks for posting that, I wasn’t buying it.

I went to Jump School in 1972, but in the 1980s I was in a Guard unit and we occasionally had a young guy who needed to go to Jump School, and it had really changed from what all we old timers remembered.

:...the army regs state that women, when in the field, MUST be afforded the opportunity to shower no less than once every 3 days..."

Huh. Is that true? If so...wow!

And I'm only 5'6 and weigh in at 110lbs.

And there it is. There is NO substitute for muscle mass. None.

“Try passing something the size of a watermelon though a body opening then come back and tell me women are rarely the physical equal of men.”

We’ll give you a call when that becomes the Rangers’ mission....

You spend too much time listening or reading male crap about women. I suggest you stay away from the MSM and those talk show hosts that belittle women.

As an example: From the New York Times Jul 1, 2011 ... We have had enough of strong female characters. What we need are more weak female characters.

Seems your problem is you can't see women as equals, you have to have your boyish fantasies about the weak female sex. You couldn't stand to have a woman show you up in anything so you go and rant on in your boyish peevish personality. Are you still wearing short pants?. Pathetic.

In January of 1980, when I went through Jump School, it was already a joke. Coming from 6 months as a BUD/S tadpole, on the way to ST-2, it was a 3 week vacation. And the ladies in the class were coddled like pets. But today, they probably think, “I went through the same Jump School as the guys.”

Like hell they did! And to even get them through AT ALL, Jump School had to be watered down to Sissy School. The same will happen to the Rangers, it will be watered down to Sissy Ranger School, so the gays and girls can make it, and so will a lot of “weak-sister” guys, who would never have made it before the watering down.

I'll go up against any Marine Recon anytime anywhere anyplace. And I'm only 5'6 and weigh in at 110lbs.

Doing what? I can see you done some things, but please. You'd never make it through the O'Club let alone the bush in combat. The only reason you wouldn't die immediately, is most of us have a sense of chivalry and you sound like you could be fun.

Any of those animals shooting back? Hand to hand? Don't be Fonzie, that is a shark too far.

Thanks though. I appreciate the compliment!

I think the burden of feminism has fallen most heavily on women. I am a big believer in doing what you do best, and I have always felt there are things women are largely better at than men, and that they should take advantage of those skills. (I am one who believes men and women are wired fundamentally differently)

That doesn’t mean men or women should pigeonhole ourselves, but I think feminism has compelled many women to go in directions they normally might not, to their detriment.

Most normal women don’t want to be men, but I have always felt this is some of the driving force behind feminism, and it never seemed healthy to me.

I wish that someone could find the video of those females that were trying to get on the L.A. Fire Department during the 1990s, it was hilarious and made the rounds for awhile, but I can’t find it in this time of the internet.

Trying to get over the wall, trying to lift the ladder over their head, it was a crack up.
