Barbour Backs Work Permits for Illegal Immigrants
WSJ ^ | 15 June 2012 | Neil King Jr.

Top Republican Haley Barbour didn’t know it the time, but he unwittingly gave a robust endorsement Friday morning to the Obama administration’s surprise decision to give work permits to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants working in the U.S.

Speaking at a breakfast with political reporters before the news broke, the former Mississippi governor and onetime Republican Party chairman launched into a robust argument on how to fix the nation’s immigration system, a position he portrayed as sharply different from that his party’s presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, and that of most other Republicans.

“America is in a global battle for capital and labor,” he said, praising the work ethic of the millions of Hispanics who have come to the U.S. without proper documentation, including the many who work in Mississippi’s poultry factories. “We need more people in America who want to work.”

Mr. Romney struck a strict immigration posture during the primary campaign, praising undocumented workers who “self deported” and opposing the Dream Act that proposed granting certain rights to the children of some illegal immigrants.

Mr. Barbour, at a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, said it was necessary to create a path to security for “people who have been here for some time” by issuing them work permits and creating a guest worker program.

Barbour is dead to FReepers. He pardoned many hardened criminals who otherwise wouldn’t have been pardoned, solely because he got to know them during their gofer-service days at the Governor’s Mansion. Corrupt turd.

One big difference is that Barbour was talking about changing U.S. immigration laws, not simply ignoring immigration laws like Obama is doing.

“Laws? We don’t need no stinking laws!” - Barry Obama

Fatso does not read the Employment/Unemployment reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So the almost 13 million unemployed and the 2.4 million who have given up don’t count???

How about their history ‘ethic’ of supporting tax increases and government handouts? I never liked Barbour anyway. He is disgusting.

The real question is how this effects their eligibility for citizenship and the vote for bigger mommy government.

” We need more people in America who want to work”

Oh, yeah. That’s our problem. We’ve got a surplus of jobs and too few people to fill those positions, right?

Idiot.

So many in the GOP-e are completely tone deaf. I don’t know who they are listening too but it certainly isn’t the base of the party. Unless of course the base is just taken for granted. You know... “Who else are they going to vote for?”
