Romney Sides with Rubio on Obama’s Immigration Action
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | June 15, 2012 | Katrina Trinko

Posted on 06/15/2012 1:52:16 PM PDT by C19fan

Mitt Romney criticized President Obama’s decision to give legal status to young adult illegal immigrants today, saying that the executive action had made it “more difficult” to bring about a “long-term solution.”

........................................................

UPDATE: It’s worth noting that, according to a couple of reporters, Romney was asked if he would reverse Obama’s order if he was elected — and didn’t respond.

Seems to me that Obama is carrying out a higher-level strategy against Romney (and Rubio for that matter).

The infirmative-action president must know his unconstitutional action will not survive a USSC challenge, but he knows how these RINOs will respond to the idea of amnesty for illegal aliens. Obama is doing this precisely to do severe damage to Romney with the conservative base.

For a guy who otherwise appears to be the epitome of incompetence, B.O. is executing superbly this high-hard political strategy.

rubio is happy with this UNCONSTITUTIONAL usurpation... so mitt cannot disagree with obama and agree with rubio. national review is now as progressive as politico. I do not like romney but I will await his real statement on this. The wrong decision here could bring on an early death for the gop. They are hanging by a string now. IF they lose the base entirely... the gop will lose almost every election and do not think that it cannot happen... it will if mitt screws this up. Bank on it!

The way to attack this is as Rep. King proposes: bring suit to stop implementation on the grounds of how Obama is acting like a king.

Obama himself said so just last year: “There are enough laws on the books by congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system. That for me to simply, through executive order, ignore those congressional mandates - that would not conform with my appropriate role as president.”

This is the smart thing, IMHO. To do otherwise lets Obama control the framing and gets off-message.

>> he hasn’t had sufficient time to go to Rove and other GOP-E members to find out where he stands for now...

That one’s gonna leave a mark!

If the republican nominee for president does not stand against this outrage... then he and his party stand with it. It can be no other way. There is no middle ground and I know in my heart that jeb bush knew this was coming because his step brother blojob clinton told him.

Notice that he did not say he approved of Obama’s action and he did say that this is not the right way to go about solving the issue.

He also didn't take a stand. Understanding he's a politician, that's also typical Mutt Romney.

Say the wrong thing now, Mittens and you’ve lost the base. Game over.
Not a masterstroke today by Obama but definitely a well timed torpedo hit amidships to the S.S. Myth Romney and the GOPE

Today we have finally seen the coming together as one our many tiered political system.
I see no differences in any politician in this United States today!
The one consuming fire that drives them is how can I get and keep my power and get more tomorrow.
“ God forgive them for they know not what they do”. I think that’s the way it was said.

I think Romney missed a golden opportunity to flip Obama’s amnesty for illegals gambit into an illegal abuse of power issue.

As it is, at best the Hispanic share of the total vote that Romney has a chance of winning is less than 3%, by opposing Obama’s move without having to focus on the immigration argument directly, Romney could bring out from the base and anti-illegal moderates and independents more than the portion of that 3% that he could be at risk of losing.

“Well hell we may as well get behind Obama”

NEVER. Obama is infintitely worse and far more of a threat to our republic and individual freedoms than Romney/Rubio would ever be. They may not support conservative ideals to the extent we would like, but they are not anti-American and are not going to trample on the Constitution. Four more years of Obama and this country will not be recognizable as the shining light on the hill it once was. The next election is, in a very real sense, a choice between electing a new president or coronating a dictator. Take your pick.

Obama would love for Romney to get down in the mud on the immigration/illegal alien issue so he doesn’t have to take a beating every day on the economy and unemployment.

That would have been the smart thing to do.

“He’s waiting for the opinion polls to come out. Gutless indeed.’

Actually I perceive he is merely stating his strongly held beliefs. It is not gutless for a politician to hold a point of view and be consistent in articulating it. The good news is he is calling it as he sees it. Now voters can decide if they agree.

What folks need to ask themselves is what are they going to do to survive the next 4 years of Obama.

It is still possible that Obama will beat himself, but Romney sure as hell won’t take him out.

He also didn't take a stand. Understanding he's a politician, that's also typical Mutt Romney.

The prime directive is to boot Obama out of the White House.

There is no upside for Romney to get into a debate with Obama over illegal immigration - the upside on that issue is all for Obama.

Romney wins and Obama loses when the daily debate is about the economy and jobs.

Obama will do anything to change the debate to other issues.

Romney needs to avoid being sidetracked from pounding Obama on the economy and jobs, jobs, jobs.
