Consider this Wall Street Journal editorial your must read of the day. It highlights why adding conservatives to the United States Senate is so important.
This past week, Republican in the Senate, including Mitch McConnell’s leadership picks, sat idly by saying nothing while the Senate Democrats pushed forward the nomination of Andrew Hurwitz, who helped formulate the reasoning behind Roe v. Wade while a law clerk. Hurwitz is quite fond of that bit of his legacy.
Andrew Hurwitz’s nomination could have been blocked from consideration had just one more Republican voted no. John McCain, Jon Kyl, and Lamar Alexander all voted for cloture. Most troubling, Harry Reid slid Hurwitz’s nomination to the floor with the unexpected request of a voice vote and the Republicans present did not object. It’s a technical issue, but I will put it to you this way: both Senators and outside groups who were trying to stop Hurwitz understand that Hurwitz’s confirmation was part of a deal struck by Republican and Democrat leaders in the Senate. The GOP Senators were too scared of the “war on women” angle to pick a fight over Hurwitz. I’m sure we’ll see the GOP’s payoff in the farm bill.
Only after Hurwitz had secured the confirmation hurtle did Mitch McConnell boldly and bravely declare the GOP would shut down further judicial confirmations for the year. Leadership staff would have you believe the Hurwitz mess was just a run of the mill loss and there was no back room whispering involved and timing of the shutdown of confirmations occurring after Hurwitz was just coincidental.
Likewise, Marco Rubio helped round up votes to get Mari Carmen Aponte confirmed as ambassador to El Salvador. Ms. Aponte dated a Cuban spy for 20 years, was a director of La Raza, and she has incensed Catholics in El Salvador with her political activism in support of gay rights.
Now sixteen Senate Republican have managed to keep sugar prices high to help corporate interests, though in a time of economic recession doing so hurts American consumers and keeps prices artificially high — not to mention keeps us from having coca-cola made with real sugar unless we get the kosher or Mexican varieties.
This is why we must continue supporting Ted Cruz. Between David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz, there is no doubt Cruz will side with Jim DeMint and Dewhurst with Mitch McConnell. It’s not enough to get a Republican in the White House if we don’t have conservatives in the Senate to both help and guide a conservative agenda for America
With friends like this, who needs enemies?
The term “Republican” no longer means what it used to. GOP Republicans in the House and Senate are just as corrupt, just as useless, and just as anti-American as many of their socialist counterparts in the democrat party.
We need conservatives, not just greasy, backroom deal-making republicans.

GOP Senate elect are sent to Bethesda where their spines and balls are removed before they’re allowed to take their seats.

This is the core of the problem. As Obama has clearly indicated, he is playing by a (as yet to be) defined set of rules.
He has clearly stated his disdain for the most fundamental set of rules...Our Constitution.
In the meantime hapless Repubs go out of their way not to “offend” anybody.
It has been said to ‘our team” a thousand X's...so this makes 10001. Start playing to win...not be liked.

Exactly. Jim DeMint made this same case in an e-mail from the Senate Conservatives Fund this morning:

You may remember the slogan “It’s the economy, stupid” used by Bill Clinton during the 1992 presidential campaign to make the point that George H. W. Bush had not adequately addressed the economy.
Clinton’s political strategist, James Carville, posted the phrase inside campaign headquarters as a way to keep the team focused and on message. The phrase later became the de facto slogan for the Clinton election campaign.
The slogan could make a comeback in 2012 as Republicans highlight Barack Obama’s dismal economic record, but if you consider yourself a freedom-loving American, then I have a different slogan for you.
“It’s the Senate, stupid.”
Conservatives are rightly focused on the presidential race this year, but winning the White House — as critical as it is — won’t be enough to save the country we love without a strong, conservative majority in the United States Senate.
• Without a conservative Senate, we won’t repeal Obamacare.
• Without a conservative Senate, we won’t balance the budget.
• Without a conservative Senate, we won’t secure our borders.
• Without a conservative Senate, we won’t stop the bailouts.
• And without a conservative Senate, we won’t enact the pro-growth policies needed to get America back to work.
As a member of the Senate Conservatives Fund, you understand that winning the Senate is the key to restoring America’s greatness.
The fact is a Republican president without a conservative Senate is a waste of a Republican president.
A president can campaign on good policies, but he doesn’t write the bills. As long as liberals are in charge of writing legislation, it will be difficult for a Republican president to sign the right bills into law.
Does anyone think Harry Reid will ever send bills to the President’s desk to balance the budget and undo President Obama’s mess? The answer is “no” and that’s why I am entirely focused on packing the Senate with strong conservatives who will make that a reality.
Republicans are in position to take the Senate back this year, but a Republican majority is not enough. We must elect new, conservative leaders who believe in the principles of freedom that made this country great and are willing to fight for them each day.
As we head into the heart of the most important election year in our lifetimes, my challenge to you is to keep your focus on winning a conservative majority in the U.S. Senate. These Senate races won’t get the same media attention as the presidential race, but they’re no less important.
That is why I founded the Senate Conservatives Fund as an independent, grassroots organization to raise money for principled leaders running for the U.S. Senate.

I’m with you. I am a registered Republican only to be able to vote in the primaries, and hope to advance a conservative in the process.
However, I am not a Republican; I am a conservative.

Right, after all just look at how how forceful they have been so far in turning the commie tide.

You’re right. Conservative commentators who cover up for Republicans do us no good. It’s rarely seen in print that I see, but Lamar Alexander, mentioned in Erickson’s column, rarely will vote to block a leftist, activist judicial nominee. His response is, “if qualified to be a judge, they should be confirmed because the president (Dim or Elephant) should be allowed to have who they pick.”
I have no doubt that Alexander wants leftist judges. Otherwise, he would not be able to hold that position about confirmation. I hope he can be thrown onto the sidewalk in 2014, though I’m sure he’s salting away a lot of campaign money already. Probably hopes to stay in the Senate longer than Hatch.

No kidding. Having an ‘R’ next to one’s name does not mean they are on the correct side.
I am a Conservative indepedent but I vote almost exclusively for republicans (I have NEVER voted for a dim and never will) and I have been a republican activist for decades... but today’s party does not represent me so that is why I took the stand that I did. I do agree with what you say about the States... because it is the truth!
