While growing up as a converted Mormon in Las Vegas, Marco Rubio was briefly inspired by Democratic icon Ted Kennedy until his grandfather persuaded him to follow the conservative path of Ronald Reagan and become a Republican forever, Rubio writes in a newly published memoir.

Full of small surprises, "An American Son" – due for release next week – reveals this defining moment and other interesting twists while tracing Rubio's improbable journey from Miami to Nevada, back to South Florida, through Tallahassee and on to the U.S. Senate.
.

.
The Catholic family briefly became Mormons – seeing it as a wholesome influence on the community – but Rubio's spiritual journey eventually brought him back to Catholicism.

Interesting. Another article in a paper we cannot quote on FR (SLT), says they converted back to Catholicism because his father could not give up smoking. I wonder what other interesting surprises are in store in this potential VP pick's book?

What makes these newcomers think they need to write a book? Methinks Rubio is just another run-of-the-mill “what’s in it for me?” Florida politician. Not interested.

First time I have heard of tobacco saving souls!

his grandfather persuaded him to follow the conservative path of Ronald Reagan and become a Republican

Grandpa had more sense than Dad.

“I wonder what other interesting surprises are in store in this potential VP pick’s book?”

1. First of all, he can’ be VP since his parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of his birth.

2. There are going to be a lot of secrets about him coming out soon.

He is becoming a wannabe Keyan bastard.

I think Rubio is a flake. He cannot be trusted with a corporate credit card. He used the corporate credit card on personal expenses. Even if the amounts are small it shows lack of judgement and charecter flaw. If he gets picked as VP nominee the opposition research teams will have a field day. There is too much about this guy that we don’t know. He has not been around in big league politics long enough. He does not have executive experience. He will get “Qualyed.”

“What makes these newcomers think they need to write a book?”

Most politicians these days who plan to run for the office of pres, write a book ahead of time and fill it with lies.

By the time that person runs, those lies are taken as truths.

And that is what Rubio is doing to make himself look acceptable.

By the late 1970s, they were alarmed by the crime and cocaine-tainted "disco-centered social scene in Miami," and moved to Las Vegas

Wow, they swapped the disco scene for casinos and strip clubs. Now there's a culture shock!

Yep. I’m sure he wants to be the first Hispanic president. Personally, I’m ready for an old regular white guy!

***First time I have heard of tobacco saving souls! ***

There was a convert to the SDA religion near here who was later disfellowshiped because he could not break his smoking habit.

I don’t want to ever see Rubio in the mix of ages or whatever. He is dangerous.

Converted to Mormonism, then back? Sounds like opportunism to me.

You can use a personal credit card for business. It just needs to be reimbursed or there is no claiming it for any reason.

I don’t the story you are referring though.

Oooops! Re-read what you wrote and came to different conclusion same result.

You can use a Corporate CC for personal use but you should reimburse the company for it’s use and it should be done sparingly.

I know of many who do this and they just account for it on the expense report and the amount either comes off the next check with an explanation or you write them a check at the time you submit your expenses.
