Another mistake by CNN to add to the archives. Canadia instead of Canada. I came across this on the Huff Post and their take was some Romney staffer must be responsible since something put out by the Romney campaign had spelled America as Americia. Yep CNN is rife with Romneyites. /sarc

How ‘bout the shuttle re-entering the atmosphere at “27 times the speed of light”?

“27 times the speed of light”

Was that spoken by a talking anchor head or one of their "tech experts"?

On the crawler at the bottom of the screen. There’s a screen capture of it somewhere.

I’ve come to realize it’s a sad commentary on the state of current business. I see baffling misspellings like this or ninth-grade usage mistakes literally every day. (Fox News captions habe been alternating between the correct “Larimer” and the transcribed-from-a-wet-napkin “Lamier” County for a week now.)

I’m not talking about botching “evoke” vs “invoke”, or “chomping” instead of “champing” at the bit, or even “imply” vs “infer”. I’m talking about the kinds of things that really are covered in elementary school — or at least used to be.

It’s not as clear cut, but I’ve more or less given up on hoping that “coincidentally” be properly used in the 95% of times when “ironically” is the word of choice. True story: commentary on a woman who crashed her car while testing out her new cell phone on the way back from the store finished with, “Ironically, it was the first time she had ever used a cell phone.”
