Immigrant Debate Shifting Under GOP’s Feet Administration’s decision gets muted reaction

By Seth McLaughlin and Ralph Z. Hallow June 18, 2012

JANESVILLE, Wis. — Randy Braden doesn’t have a problem with President Obama’s decision to effectively stop trying to deport many children of illegal immigrants, but he does have a problem with the way he went about it.

The 60-year-old retired agriculture worker from nearby Milton is one of a number of people who turned out Monday for Mitt Romney’s “Every Town Counts” bus trip through small towns and cities that expressed a willingness to cut this group of illegal immigrants some slack — a sharp departure from the past when presidential candidates were given little wiggle room on the issue.

“It probably is the right thing to do; however, like a lot of things, it is a short-term fix,” Mr. Braden said, alluding to Mr. Obama’s announcement Friday that the Department of Justice would stop deporting some young adults who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. “If he was really serious about illegal immigration and reform, he should have been doing that the first two years in office” when Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate.

The muted reaction on the ground — and Mr. Romney’s carefully modulated response over the weekend to Mr. Obama’s surprise order — could signal an unexpected shift in what has been one of the country’s thorniest political issues, a shift that comes as the ranks of illegal immigrants in the country have stalled for the first time in years.

While Mr. Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, faced some uncomfortable moments on CBS‘ “Face the Nation” as he declined to take a firm stand on Mr. Obama’s order, ....

***That’s what we can expect from a Romney administration on every topic of interest to conservatives.

Fascism and the bringing down of America are here to stay. How ‘bout that “fundamental transformation”?! English is about to become the second language here.

I don’t think the GOPe RINO’s are one bit displeased with
this order from Zero. Quite the contrary.

And they’re trying to shove Rubio down our throats. Today, Rubio went to that old standby of “you wouldn’t care if they were Canadian”.

‘Rubio went to that old standby of “you wouldn’t care if they were Canadian’

Rubio was for amnesty in the very beginning, then he tempered his remarks so as not to offend the base. Now that he sees little backlash to illegal immigration his true color comes out.

If they are here for work, they are taking jobs from Americans.
If they are not working, they are taking resources for already strained social services and charities needed by Americans.
Either way, they all need to go.

A couple of questions for the board.

1. Sense all the laws passed by congress reguarding illegal aliens are still on the books how can the government chose to selectively inforce these laws? What happened to the equal protection clause? Is this equitable? Why should Maria Gomez who sneaked over the border at age 18 and has been working as a maid for 10 years be deported and Juan Garcia who came over with his parents at 15 be granted immunity?

2. How does an illegal alien get into the US military? Aren’t SSN# used as military ID these days?

I really can’t answer.

Just the other day, Joe Arpio said he signs them all up with the selective service “As required by law”.

Since some foreigners can join the US military, I doubt the US military worries very much about where an eligible foreign national happens to be when they join up.

Saying we wouldn't care if they were Canadian is rather like telling us we are heartless.

One of my ancestors was on the boat that discovered Cuba in 1502. This stinkin' newcomer has his comeupence ~ guy can go back there if he wants.

The fundamental deal for all the Hispanics is they had their choice in 1604 when KIng Philippe carved up North America. He left a desolate dry wasteland others would call Virginia to the European broadmasses ~ and a much better place called Acadia to the French. He reserved the vast resources West of Hudson's Bay to himself, and the equally vast territory West of the Mississippi to Spaniards.

Mexico was retained, as was Central America.

The Spaniards and their lackeys generally abandoned that thin strip of land marked out in the highest peaks of the Appalachians and the Atlantic ~ then the fools rushed in and died by the tens of thousands. It took a truly incredible amount of hard work and sacrifice to arrive at the United States of America. Centuries of it.

I really don't think we owe these hispanic people anything. They've wasted their patrimony and we're out of calves to slaughter for them.

My. My. My. The Elitist Republican establishment wing of the ruling class will not come out against illegal aliens. I am shocked; shocked I tell you that the same people who WANT, DESPERATELY WANT, to be loved and admired more than respected for obeying written law are now silent on the DREAMERS is truly amazing. Do you think they have figured out yet that their days are numbered regardless if Mittsy wins? Please vote TEA party candidates this election cycle. The few true conservatives in Congress (both houses) need help in holding back the reckless spending of the last 50 years.

Obama’s scam to change the discussion from the economy to sympathy for illegals seems to be gaining traction.

Thanks in part to RINOs who were happy to jump up on the soapbox Obama provided.

1) Juan Garcia did not break the law entering the USA because he was not of age and Maria Gomez did because of her age. That makes Juan an alien without status and Maria an illegal alien. Obama targeted the former group on purpose.

2)Many aliens such as Juan received SS numbers through the public schools and since the Juan group are not considered criminal only without status.

GOP leaders are cowardly fools for not telling black yutes. You have a 56% unemployment rate, and here Obama has just made one million young illegals, now legal for them to enter the work force and compete with you for jobs. in other words, Obama has just thrown you young blacks under the bus to score political points with the Hispanics

But the RINOs don’t have the guts to fight back via class. if reversed, the dems would be all over it in that vein like stink on chit.

I grew up thinking that my great grandfather had arrived as an Austrian boy by way of Canada in 1912. Now we know that he was actually a Polish Jew from Buchovina who changed his name 3 times in getting here and he did it all at somewhere between 9 and 13 years old. He came over on the Mount Temple which had an interesting and short history of its own.

In the 20s he ended up working for the Purple Gang in Detroit as a diver unstrapping kegs from boat hulls on the Detroit river.

Where is the empathy for the children of law abiding Americans and legal immigrants who are suffering the worst economy since the Great Depression through no fault of their own?

Why are we rewarding lawbreakers and their children while millions of citizens are unemployed? Where is the concern for them? Where are the jobs that Americans won't do?

Should we all ignore laws we don't like? That would transform the country more than Obama's dictatorial actions will.

“you wouldn’t care if they were Canadian”.
***But we do. There is a ton of competition for jobs, and it does not matter where the illegal competition comes from, north / south / east/ or west.

The last numbers I saw on illegals from Canada was an inflated 80,000 in 2008, The site was a pro open border site bashing our stance on Mexico.

I’m guessing the number of illegal Canadians is probably less than 20,000. It doesn’t make sense for Canadians to live here illegally. I speak from Michigan where we have a very close relationship with Canada.

Hell, they’re buying us a bridge.
