President Obama and Mitt Romney are statistically tied in Michigan, according to a poll from Mitchell Research released on Thursday.
Obama leads Romney 47 percent to 46 in the poll, which has a 3.5 percent margin of error. Its the fourth poll in June to show the candidates neck and neck in the Wolverine State, which has swung reliably Democratic in recent elections and where Obama was up by double digits as recently as mid-May.
Obama will have to campaign very heavily in Michigan, something he did not want to do, said Mitchell Research Chairman Steve Mitchell in a statement. Every dollar he spends here is a dollar he will not have in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Virginia and other states crucial to his election. Unlike 2008, when John McCain publicly announced he was not campaigning in Michigan, Romney and Obama will likely be battling all the way to Nov. 6.

This is amazing. If Obama can’t win Michigan, he’s done.
Pitiful it’s even close
No wonder Michigan’s in the tank with voters no smarter than this
A “toss-up” means Obama Zero is losing.
If you’re lucky, most of the uber-liberal uaw workers and public service union types have retired and moved down south. That might tip the odds towards the GOP. OTOH, most of the conservatives who can, have fled from the state, including me. It’s hard to compete against the welfare class who will vote for anyone who will keep the bennies flowing.
Michigan hasn’t gone Pubbie at least since 1988. How can it be a swing state?
It’s getting a little harder for Detroit to steal the election - the slugs are dwindling in numbers. How that has happened I don’t know since the welfare Moms seem to keep having more and more kids but, supposedly the numbers are dropping. Rid the State of Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor and Upper Michigan’s Marquette and the state would be better off. College towns and welfare cities always go lib.
They’re killing each other off, to be blunt. It’s still the Murder Capital of the world.
We’ve got a good secretary of state and attorney general who have actually gotten fraud convictions against democrat vote fraudsters. That makes them a little leery of taking the risk.
The funny thing is that Mitt Romney himself struggled against the much more conservative Santorum and only pulled out a tie here. In 08 Romney beat McCain here by about 10%. In fact if you look back to 04 the spread between Kerry and Bush was only 4 or 5 percent.
The state is becoming more conservative with every passing year. Instate politics have grown more conservative as well.
True dat. But even the slightly sentient leech knows when the host has been bled dry they will too.
You are right: If a Muslim cannot win in Michigan, he cannot win anywhere.
“This is amazing. If Obama cant win Michigan, hes done.”
Absolutely, finished. If MI falls so will others in the midwest.
We're slightly blue on the presidential level, but we're not Illinois either.
By God, cripple, I hope you are correct!
My hometown of Holland was as conservative as it gets...I hope the rest of the state follows suit.
That said, I left anyway.... :)
