Jerry Sandusky verdict: Victim 1's mom says 'I cried, I'm very happy'

BELLEFONTE -- When her son finished testifying against his molester, Victim 1's mom said, it wasn't over until Jerry Sandusky was locked up forever.

Tonight, 'over' got that much closer.

With only 20 minutes to get to court, Victim 1 and his mom were forced to hear about Sandusky's guilt on 45 of 48 counts of child sex abuse the way the rest of the world heard -- on television.

Victim 1, 18, was on his way to work. He didn't want to disrupt his normal routine, his mom said.

"I called him, I cried, I'm happy. I'm very happy," she said.

He told his mom, "Thank God," she said.

"I think it's finally over," she said. "It's been a long time I think it's finally over."

Thank God, and thank you, jury.

The man who sullied JoePA’s rep gets what he deserves.

I followed the trial closely on InSession.

This “mother” sent her child back to Sandusky over and over and over again, despite his reluctance to return.

She testified her son had stomach problems, his good grades plummeted, he became withdrawn, and his sleep cycle changed.

She KNEW something was WRONG with his relationship with Sandusky but urged him to go back because “it would be good for him.”

She testified that when her child would return from a visit with Sandusky, his underwear was missing. (He had thrown them away because of blood stains.)

This woman has to be a moron, or she didn’t give a rat’s behind about her son, or she used Sandusky as a babysitter.

It’s horrific. I can’t comprehend most of this.

Every time something like this has happened and it makes the news, we hear how the kid was upset (yet the parents kept encouraging a return); we hear about the grooming behavior (which the parents interpreted as ‘affection’); all the telltale signs are there as well as the threats and guilt tripping by the pedophile, followed by discovery; then denial by the pedophile, friends and families.

The guilty verdicts may not be of much consolation to the victims.

Sullying another man's reputation is small potatoes compared to the horrific damage he did to the lives of the many children he abused.

That he did it under the shelter of sports, in the guise of helping, supporting and encouraging kids impacts those who selflessly and actually do help kids.

It’s sad it took so long for them to get justice. These families will never get back what that bastard took away from them. I hope he rots in Hell.

Agree, it's a relief to see that the jury came through and did their job.

There was no mention of this boy’s father. I think if there would have been a father in the home...this probably would not have gone on for so long.

Out of all the victims who testified...only one had a father in the home.

Child molestation and rapes happens to children who have two married heterosexual parents living in the home and unfortunately, those horrific crimes have always existed.

It does not help nor prevent future molestations and rapes by blaming the victim or through extension blaming those present or absent in a victim's life.

Pedophiles are found in all shapes, sizes and marital statuses. Pedophiles only need access to a child. There are as many points of access as there are victims. It is the pedophile who is the sole culprit and who deserves the blame. In my opinion, of course.

If I recall correctly, Paterno reported the incident up the chain-of-command for action and there was none taken by higher level officials that’s the reason at least two higher level officials are still in hot water.

I will not defend Paterno furthermore(the chickens can come home to roost at PSU for all I care); but, major university/NCAA politics being what they are, he may or may not have done all of what he could have done outside of breaking the story to LEO’s on his own.
