Issa: No evidence so far of White House cover-up

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congress doesn't have any evidence so far of a White House cover-up involving a botched gun-tracking operation, a top Republican said Sunday, countering the House speaker's assertion that President Barack Obama or his aides deliberately misled lawmakers.

"No we don't," said Rep. Darrell Issa, R.-Calif., in response to a question on "Fox News Sunday" about whether lawmakers had proof now to back Speaker John Boehner's claim about White House officials' involvement.

“This story has Pulitzer written all over it”

Surely you jest? Any Reporter busting the lid off this will be totally ostracized by the lefty Media. 40 years ago MAYBE that wouldn't be the case. Any Reporter with the goods on this story and follows through on it better hope that there is an opening at Fox News or the WSJ.

So I should hold of sending this letter to the local editor?

With his administration sinking faster than the economy, Barack Obama must be a little light on Hope these days. Proof of that is his recent retreat into the bunker of Executive Privilege.

Of all the setbacks he has suffered in this month alone, flaccid jobs report, the Wisconsin win, senior Congressional members calling for an inquiry into the Muslim Brotherhood’s access and its influence over government agencies, only one has gained the status of Albatross. Even Pelosi expressing frustration at the secrets pouring out of his administration didn’t seem to affect him.

Just don’t mention the F words if you’re out golfing with him.

That’s because the one issue keeping the upper echelon of the Executive branch awake at night, the single circumstance that has caused the retreat from Stonewall Palace into the bunker blanket is the Fast and Furious investigation.

More specifically, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s vote to sanction Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt of Congress for failing to provide the substantive documents the Committee subpoenaed more than a year ago.

There has been quite a bit of obfuscation taking place regarding Fast and Furious. First, it was not a ‘botched’ job cobbled together by rogue agents as it is still being reported by most of the news media. There are taped news conferences of Mr. Holder and Ms. Napolitano, the head of the Department of Homeland Security and others discussing the program available for public viewing. Fast and Furious was planned at the highest levels of our government

Next, it had little to do with stopping the flow of guns into Mexico and much to do with limiting the Second Amendment rights of Americans. Even before the plan to mislead gun shop owners in the Southwest into selling hundreds of guns to drug cartel middlemen blew up in their faces, the U.S government (State Department) was shipping weapons to the Mexican military by the ton. An uncertain percentage of those shipments found its way into the black market.

In reality, most of the weapons in Mexico come from the Middle East in exchange for drugs and border crossing expertise.

The painful, almost immediate impact of Fast and Furious was the deaths of two of our Federal officers, Border Patrol Officer Brian Terry and Immigration Control and Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata and an alleged two hundred plus Mexicans citizens.

It is those deaths that are influencing the recent reactions of the Executive branch. Despite all the screaming from the left about racist Republicans who can’t stand having a black President and a black Attorney General, despite the accusations from Nancy Pelosi that it’s a partisan witch hunt directed somehow at democrat voters, it’s about murder.

In fact, it is about mass murder. And the Executive branch of our government knows where the responsibility lies.

That’s why they clammed up and headed to the bunker.

I hope so. I’m just too used to the GOP in congress folding before they actually win a fight, so I hope that’s not what this is.

Help me out here. It would seem that if it came out in the future that Issa now had the evidence he says he doesn’t have, the credibility and motives of the GOP would be questioned.

I think he may have been told, by somebody with knowledge, the essential conversations and debates that went on in the White House when the F&F story started bubbling up.

Things like meeting notes and emails between certain parties would reveal that information concretely, which makes his case easier.

Or he may have been slipped actual copies of correspondence and really has the goods. If there were crimes committed, the possession of those documents by congress would be untouchable under the whistle blower laws.

If those guns were intentionally distributed to the cartels with no intent to track them, the Administration is going to look pretty silly trying to switch the debate to how Issa found out about it.

“I think Issa knows basically what’s in those documents and Obama/Holder know that Issa knows.
He’s just playing his hand right now. Lots of money in the pot.”

Do you think Issa has briefed Romney regarding Holder’s and Obama’s documentable involvement?

I think he's got some of the internal DOJ documents. But I don't think he's got everything.

The key point here is that Holder requested executive privilege on 6/19, and Obama granted it the very next day. That means Obama must have been kept in the loop at least as far as the investigation/document production went. That strongly suggests there are documents from Holder to Obaaa briefing him on the facts, discovery dispute, etc.. And that itself is inconsistent with Holder's claim that politics has played no role in DOJ's compliance, or lack thereof, with Congressional requests.

I'm sure Issa knows most of the details about F&F, and how high up that went. But he doesn't have whatever exists regarding deliberate delays of the Congressional investigation.

Everyone here needs to be far more astute in seeing past the slant - and the outright misleadings of the MSM

Congress doesn't have any evidence so far of a White House cover-up involving a botched gun-tracking operation, a top Republican said Sunday, countering the House speaker's assertion that President Barack Obama or his aides deliberately misled lawmakers.

No, he did NOT say that. Watch for the first sentence to be different from what actually was said

"No we don't," said Rep. Darrell Issa, R.-Calif., in response to a question on "Fox News Sunday" about whether lawmakers had proofnow to back Speaker John Boehner's claim about White House officials' involvement.

What he said is that "we don't have proof," not that we do not have evidence.

There are reams of evidence!
And we all know that the MSM knows it!

No evidence of a cover-up from the white house. Just ask ask the white house, it will tell you so. “Nope! No cover-up here”. The funny thing is people will buy that load of crap like it was the gospel.

Cummings said on FOX NEWS Sunday with Chris Wallace that he had a relative “slaughtered by a gun” and that he “knows what guns can do” To me, it was astounding that he said that given the fact that all but Bill O’Reilly know that gun control in the US was the main reason for F & F. Sounds to me that he knows why F&F was going on and he accidentally revealed it to Wallace in an indirect way.
