ELECTION: Kreep says right-wing views won't affect rulings as judge

Winning candidate has challenged Obama's birthplace, legitimacy

Voters in San Diego County appear to have elected a conservative activist lawyer to a judgeship with the San Diego Superior Court.

Gary Kreep, 61 ---- known for taking on right-wing causes ---- said Friday that his views will not color his decisions on the bench.

According to the unofficial tally, Kreep surpassed his opponent, veteran prosecutor Garland Peed, by 1,702 votes in a judicial contest in which more than 406,000 ballots were cast. Kreep garnered 50.21 percent of the votes to Peed's 49.79 percent.

The result caught political observers by surprise, because prosecutors tend to be shoo-in candidates in judicial races.

Kreep's win was not the only instance of a prosecutor losing to a private attorney in San Diego County this election, but his apparent election to the bench caught national attention on liberal news websites, including mentions on www.dailykos.com and a blog hosted by MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.

Kreep is unabashedly conservative. He is anti-abortion, opposes gay marriage and has legally challenged whether Barack Obama was born in the U.S. and thus is qualified to be president.

It appears Kreep will soon go by another name: "Your Honor."

Kreep says he used old-fashioned methods ---- shoe leather and slate mailers ---- to reach out to voters. He even ended up on a slate mailer urging voters to back Obama.

San Diego political strategist John Dadian said Kreep's apparent win was not an anomaly, but rather "a change in dynamic."

Under conventional wisdom, the pedigree of Kreep's opponent ---- Peed is a country prosecutor with establishment endorsements ---- should have been bankable "like gold" to win, Dadian said.

Good news, indeed. Gary Kreep was an activist with the Young Americans for Freedom back in the 1980’s.

Orly would still figure out a way to lose in his courtroom.

It’s nice that my vote meant something, that was a fairly close election.

These tougher truth-in-advertising laws are a big help. :P

But, seriously, I was going to ask how a guy named Kreep could win an election. Round here we had a candidate whose name was Fleece, but he lost. Sometimes, a name can make such a difference. Always wondered how that California Rep. Doolittle kept getting re-elected.

O.K. The losers Name is Garland Peed!

That’s not a lot better than Seymour Butts.

Gary Kreep is a great American patriot! Think about what he has accomplished: he won in a county that voted 55/44 for Obama in 2008 and by winning with a .25% margin he proved California Democrats don’t know how to do voter fraud.

Rightwing view: enforce the Constitution

Leftwing view: ignore the Constitution; attack anyone who wants the Constitution enforced; subvert, misconstrue, lie.

Weird, I just got a freepmail telling me that I didn’t mean to use the contraction of it is, as in “It is nice that my vote meant something, that was a fairly close election.”

It’s a strange freepmail to read.
