The Obama Phone Program

What exactly is the free Obama phone? The free Obama phone is a program that is meant to help the financially unstable who cannot afford access to a cell phone. Communication should not be limited to people in relation to what they are able to afford. The Lifeline program was actually created decades ago to help low income families have access to land lines. Over the years the cost of cell phones and cellular service has decreased and the program has been extended to cover cell phones.

During the Bush administration, there was the introduction of a project that gave subsidies to those who could not afford a phone. The basic principle of the program is that everyone should have access to emergency services like 911. There are a number of deaths that take place every year do to lack of proper communication, and access to emergency services should be a right for everyone.

The free Obama phone is an important program, especially for low income families that would otherwise not have access to basic communications. There are different plans to choose from. Some plans offer fewer minutes and more texting and some even include rollover minutes. Make sure you check out all the plans before choosing the one that is right for you.

But maybe a dedicated “work search phone” which can make and receive unlimited calls to and from business numbers (assuming a database of same was available) could make a lot of sense. Other calls (besides the legally mandated 911) would be possible but there would be a severe monthly quota upon them, or require the recipient to kick payments in.

Root of the problem with liberalism:

"(INSERT YOUR DESIRE HERE)( should not be limited to people in relation to what they are able to afford."

Cars.

Stereos.

Computers.

Steak Dinners.

Houses on the beach.

You name it.

That’s what i said. They want a Garden of Eden without God, in which the government tree provides all, and they are as God, as the original “occupy movement” began with the devil. Is. 14.

They tried to get it on drugs, and now want to achieve it by government. But it turns int Haight-Asbury.

But gutting our military and leaving this nation exposed will be?

Welfare was sold with the understanding it would put an end poverty. How has that worked out?

Multiple trillion dollars later, our welfare expenditures have grown to nearly three quarters of a trillion dollars PER YEAR.

It would seem to me that a lifeline phone at home would resolve this issue. If a person were homeless, you might have a case, but even then there are places where a person could have an ombudsman work for them.

Any employment agency will be glad to make or take calls from a prospective employer on your behalf, and charge you a portion of your new earnings for the favor.

It could be just the ticket to track people.

“What the system does is actually follow you around wherever you are going,”

See articles below

Smartphones now set up with automatic alert system for weather, national emergencies

Everyone will receive the “weather emergency alerts” automatically, provided they have a newer smartphone or an older one with an up-to-date operating system. The WEA system is rolling out in Minnesota this week via the National Weather Service and Department of Homeland Security.

Snip

“What the system does is actually follow you around wherever you are going,” based on users’ proximity to cellular towers, said Todd Krause, the weather-warning coordinator at the National Weather Service’s office in Chanhassen.

Will be what?

This hyping by Obama is disgraceful. People in need will go to social workers or churches who will direct them to the appropriate help if they can’t themselves help. Obama is painting himself as the big Santa Claus when the actual elves were Republicans.

These phones are awfully tiny drops compared to the deep buckets of welfare fraud. It comes without a face, and so invites abuse.

2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 2Th 3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 2Th 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 2Th 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 2Th 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

Perks = dependencies on government, dangle the carrot and you can get votes come the Fall.

If you get them independent, who knows who they may vote for or if they’ll even vote at all.

Government is NOT your friend. It takes your stuff and sometimes gives it to other people after skimming some for operational expenses and well-connected lobbying interests.

From the first link you posted about the upgraded software for older phones & Smartphone alerts:
http://www.twincities.com/ci_20931233/smartphones-now-set-up-automatic-alert-system-weather

>>> Everyone will receive the “wireless emergency alerts” automatically... via the National Weather Service and Department of Homeland Security. This nationwide mobile-alert system won’t only transmit severe-weather alerts. Phone users also will get an Ambert (sic) Alert if a child goes missing. If the United States faces a nationwide crisis of some sort, the president can transmit a mobile alert that pops up automatically on phones across the country... The new 90-character-or-less alerts resemble regular texts but are a different form of messaging that includes a distinctive ringtone and also makes a device vibrate... Smartphone users can choose not to receive Amber and weather alerts — though public-safety officials urge them not to do the latter for their own protection — but can’t block presidential alerts. <<<

Let me translate this for those in Rio Linda, based on actual experience with a FRiend’s cable TV system with DVR which automatically provides such a “service” - and remember, this is a feature, not a bug.

First, the emergency alert totally hijacks your mobile device - er, TV. The alert tone which precedes and follows the actual emergency message hijacks your volume control. No matter if you turned down the TV volume to sleep yourself or allow your partner or child to sleep, that tone bypasses the control you set and issues at ear-splitting volume. You can’t disable it, nor can you set it to at least be silent for Amber Alerts. If the TV is on, everybody’s awake by the time it’s finished blaring. (And if you were DVR’ing a show at the time - too bad.)

That the (any) president gets to seize control of one’s mobile devices and impose himself by phone, TV and a plethora of privately owned media devices is disgusting. Maybe the shear number of wrecks as drivers nationwide simultaneously reach for their warbling phones will put this insanity to bed before it becomes entrenched as “good for the chilrun” but I doubt it.
