AUSTRALIAN Olympian Daniel Batman has been killed in a car crash on a remote Northern Territory highway, southeast of Darwin.
The 31-year-old was driving on the Arnhem Highway when his car veered off the road about midnight on Monday, the NT News reported.
Debris including side panels, a front bumper, shocks and the engine - strewn 100m along the road - was seen by a passing motorist about 7am.
Batman was once married to fellow sprinter and Hockeyroo Nova Peris and the couple have two children.
He was based in Canberra and was in the Top End visiting his children after separating in 2010.
Northern Territory Police detective Acting Sen-Sgt John Worrall said the crash occurred near the Adelaide River Bridge.
"Although we're still in the early stages of the investigation, it appears as though the man was travelling east on the Arnhem Highway when the vehicle left the road, crashed into a culvert and landed 10m off the road," he said.

If he was 31 and White he had no chance of winning the Olympics. Probably could not have even made the Australian team.
The last White man to win the 100 meters was Alan Wells of Scotland, 32 years ago.
Still a tragedy but at first reading I thought Adam West was dead.
