Angela Merkel isn't bluffing; like everyone else in Europe, she's defending national sovereignty
The Telegraph ^ | 6/27/2012 | Jeremy Warner

You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning. No, not Mrs Thatcher, but Angela Merkel, the latest big beast of the European political scene to dig her heels in and refuse to go along with the international consensus.

The parallels with Britain's own iron lady are striking, though obviously not exact. Mrs Thatcher pledged to use the
British veto to block monetary union. I'm going to stand on the track and stop that train, she said. So she stood on the
track and was duly run over by the EMU locomotive.

No, no, she says, to any solution to the eurozone crisis that looks like debt pooling, as if echoing the words of Britain's former prime minister all those years ago on the perils of monetary union.

The German Chancellor is bluffing, and doesn't really mean it, the markets reply, but if this is indeed only a game of poker, she's certainly got nerves of steel. There will be no joint and several guarantees for euro area debt "as long as I live", she told a private meeting of German MPs this week. If that's bluff, then it's one from which politically she'll struggle to escape.

Looking at the mess into which the eurozone has since descended, many Europeans must wish she had succeeded, but it was not to be. With Mrs Thatcher disposed of, Britain instead negotiated an opt out from a project it believed

“Like everyone else” . . . ? None of the other countries in the EU seem to be defending their national sovereignty, except for Britain that is, and while Greece is trying, they are too weak to put up much of a fight. France is ready to throw theirs away; same with Ireland, Spain, Poland, Croatia, etc., even Italy.

Thatcher was not “run over by the EMU locomotive” at all. Europhiles in her own country pushed her off the track.

Open a joint checking account with a drunken Greek sailor? What could go wrong?

“The German Chancellor is bluffing, and doesn’t really mean it, the markets reply,”

The “markets,” or rather the idiot elites who claim to represent them, really can’t be THAT ignorant of history and (German) culture, can they?!

Apparently yes, they can.

Maybe someday we can have a leader who places the interests of America somewhere in his/her top 10.

The old definition of socialism/democracy was three animals (two wolves and a sheep) voting on what to have for dinner.

The path to political unity in Europe today seems to be a whole bunch of countries (many sheep, one wolf) deciding who should pay off all of Europe's debts.

Germany is the wolf, and she will not be consumed by profligate sheep.

The progressives hate the idea that the people might be able to move to another country and escape their crazy liberal policies and taxes.

As far as I'm concerned the more of these socialist paradises that fold the better. How better to disprove this ridiculous experiment with stupidity than to watch the idiots who kept voting themselves goodies lose it all. The are consequences to idiotic choices!!

Angela Merkel isn't bluffing.

The unelected bureaucrats at the EU (cough) 'parliament' in Brussels expect Germany to bail out every failing 'member state' in the EU and she ain't playing that game. Like all socialist leeches these unelected bureaucrats 'demand it', solely because Germany is the only country that's solvent (for now).

Well she didn't budge when Greece was bleeding money and pretty much told the EU Bank to pound sand and Greece has been kicked out of the EU and will have to go back to the Drachma, and that won't be pretty but it's their own fault. And Spain, just got a 100 Billion Euro bailout and that's already gone. Now they need 400 Billion more.

Next in line for being broke is Italy, Portugal and iirc Ireland. And now France is on the brink of being broke and they'll need bailing out too. And all of this bailout money is supposed to come ONLY from Germany. Ha! That'll happen when hell freezes over.

For those that don't know, the only European politician whose said the EU and Euro was doomed to failure from day one is Nigel Farage of the UKIP. Go to YouTube and search for his speeches. He's brilliant and the only sane person in Brussels (Nigel used to be an Economist so he kind of knows about that money stuff /s).

Nigel is also for that Sovereign Nation and Democracy thing which the EU is against as they want to eliminate all borders and that 'nation' stuff (commie sobs)
