Will John Roberts be remembered in history the same as Benedict Arnold?

>> Impeachment by the House with a trial by the Senate. In an interesting twist, the Constitution provides that the Chief Justice presides over the trial. Presumably any impeached CJ would recuse him/herself, but who would instead preside is an interesting question for the legal scholars. <<

In the event that a justice of the Supreme Court is impeached, the Vice President of the U.S. (in his role as President of the Senate) presides over the impeachment trial. This precedent was set in 1805 when SCOTUS Justice Samuel Chase was impeached and Vice President Aaron Burr presided over his trial.

Miers was nominated to take Sandra Day O'Connor's seat, one that eventually went to Samuel Alito.

Benedict Arnold could have been a hero. He exhibited courage under fire and sacrafice. He was a Patriot right up to the point he betrayed the Country not out of fear, but out of greed. John Roberts does not strike me as a man who ever had any courage. To the extent he has betrayed the country, it was out of fear when BHO called him out publicly in the SOTU address.

Interesting nugget! Thanks. I guess they figured that Chase’s “brethren” on the Court (including Chief Justice Marshall) might be biased for or against him.

I get what you’re saying but Massachusetts makes it so easy that the illegal alien doesn’t have to resort to getting heath care via the emergency room. He can waltz in through the front door as a valued client for freebie care...Paid for by the hard working taxpayers of Massachusetts

Kind of true but Miers wanted Alito, Rove and BB Andy Card wanted Roberts. Personnally I would have chosen Edith Jones and fought the battle and then went with Miers or Alito. Roberts was and is a Tribe guy and always has been. His decisions this week are awful. The guy rewrote the statute for goodness sakes. Judicial activism on steroids. But in the end Bush made the choice and Roberts swindled everybody. Souter on steroids.

The day may come when we go quietly into the night, when we surrender. But it is not this day , this day we fight!

Or maybe we’ll just go back to playing with our made in China smart phones.

History should remember Nov. 4 2008, when the electorate handed over the Republic to the socialists.

Brutus, Judas, Quisling, Roberts

If I lived across the street from him I'd take a crap on his lawn EVERYDAY.

He has not been David Souter 2.0 up till this point but it looks like that might change. Filthy SOB. I wish I was a waiter at restaurant he ate at just so I could spit in his food.

Clearly we need the hardest core conservative judicial nominees for SCOTUS. Not the slightest wiff of "independence" can be tolerated. I'm not blaming Jr. Bush, he looked good at the time.

I wonder what happened after that, oral? Oral Roberts?

Please forgive me friends for these inappropriate comments, I'm angry at this pig.

I don’t want to overstate it, but I hope he dies a long and terrible suffering death. Ten times over.

It's been hinted and whispered, including by Rush Limbaugh on his show today, that Roberts may have been intimidated by Democrats to change his mind.

There are two general ways this could have happened: (1) a threat of violence against Roberts and his loved ones or (2) a threat to reveal some personal "skeleton."

Either way, Roberts should have had the integrity to stand up against the threats and intimidation. If not, he probably should never have been appointed to the SCOTUS in the first place.

Drawing attention to statements you have made is not a personal attack.

The people who need to develop legal minds are the very ones who voted for this monstrosity on the Supreme Court and that includes Justice Roberts. We have a constitution which is very clear and very easy to read. If there is any misunderstanding, we have very literate Founders who wrote definitively about what they have done. That modern day legals believe they have the right to abandon the Constitution makes me understand that modern legal minds suspend adherence to the Constitution. So that nothing in the Constitution means what it originally did anymore. Both you and those socialists on the Court share that understanding.

Anyone voicing the opinion that what Roberts did with the commerce clause was wonderful, conveniently sidesteps the elephant in the room. Roberts could have struck down use of the commerce clause and voted against Obamacare. Making the ruling 6 to 3 in favor of striking it down. That is not a divided ruling except that all the liberals would have appeared to be partisan and we would no longer have to worry about Obamacare.

The only good that has come out of this is that it is clear whose side people have chosen. That makes it clear who the enemies are. You can continue to praise our enemies and stand with them if you wish. But I don’t fight battles that way.

We now know that we will have no help from liberal justices that have been appointed by republicans. We won’t have any help from the republicans because they love socialism too.

A friend in Massachusetts tells me illegal aliens and other deadbeats swarm into Massachusetts to glom onto Romney care for an gall bladder operation or kidney dialysis just for examples.

And that raises the huge question: Is Mitt Romney sincere in his desire to get ObamaCare repealed, or his he just playing politics, hoping to attract those of us voters who are teed off at the SCOTUS decision today.

Democrats are cancer, Republicans are chemo.

Interesting analogy. So to take it a step further, the patient is the constitutional republic!
