Ginsburg opinion cites (Mitt's) Massachusetts law
Politico ^ | June 28, 2012 | Alexander Burns

With all eyes on the individual mandate Thursday, Mitt Romney got a shout-out from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in her opinion on the Affordable Care Act.

Writing on the subject of providing affordable insurance to those with preexisting conditions, Ginsburg noted that Massachusetts “cracked [the] adverse selection problem.” and highlighted briefs explaining “the success of Massachusetts’ reforms.”

Under the Massachusetts health system, most residents were required to buy insurance so that insurance companies wouldn’t be left only with sick customers – and thus skyrocketing premiums.

“As a result, federal lawmakers observed, Massachusetts succeeded where other States had failed,” Ginsburg wrote.

And don’t be surprised if Obama gives a “shout-out” to Romney, either.

If I were President Obama, and thank heavens I’m not, I would hold a presser and I’d say the following:

“Today is a momentous day, big victory, etc., etc. But more than anything, I’d like to thank Governor Romney for his inspiration in crafting the ACA; we used the plan passed by Governor Romney in _________ (I forgot what year it was), as the basis for the ACA. Again, thank you Governor Romney, for providing the light and the leadership on this vital issue, blah, blah, blah.”

That’s what I would say if I were the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. But then again, I’m kind of an SOB who loves to needle his opponents.

Real Conservatives always warned about Romney. They were right

Only a fool or a Democrat believes that Romney will actually undo ObamaCare if he is elected President. The Father of Socialized Medicine in the USA is not going to dump out his baby, even if Obama gave birth to it

“Thank you, Willard, for helping the Legislature, the SCOTUS and me pass the Affordable Care Act.

High five, buddy”

Barak Obama, June 28, 2012

You made me laugh and cry at the same time. You nailed it perfectly. Obama and his minions got ObamaCare handed to them on a SuperSized Happy Meal...it came with a special toy called Campaign 2012 Talking Points

"As president, Mitt will nominate judges in the mold of Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas, and Alito. These justices hold dear what the great Chief Justice John Marshall called “the basis on which the whole American fabric has been erected”: a written Constitution, with real and determinate meaning."

Ginsburg hands Obama a winning campaign slogan.

Mitt Romney's got a more credible record on healthcare than I have? Not very pithy.

Romney argues the mandate was unconstitutional based on the commerce clause and the Court held that. That the Court swerved and adopted the "it's a tax" view is not Romney's problem. He wasn't arguing that but now he can use Obama's frequent statements it wasn't a tax against him in advertising.

One wonders if Roberts will stay listed after today. If not, it’ll become a ‘news story’ and if so, it’ll annoy people who bother to notice.

He's not the father of federal socialized medicine.

He gave Massachussetts what they wanted...the bluest of blue states was clamoring for the healthcare they got.

This should be done one a state-by-state basis. I see no reason to think Romney wants federally socialized medicine.

That was done at the state level and didn’t affect the lives of 350 million people. The cost of this on a national scale will be in the trillions.

What else do we have left? He’s the nominee. He said he will repeal it. Either we go with that or we lose our last hope.

I didn't defend RomneyCare. I would hate it if it were passed in my State.

But if it's left to my state, my State will vote a similar program in because it's the bluest of the blue.

I don't like RomneyCare, but it's the right of any State to vote for it if they want.

Romney is for a state-by-state program. I am definitely in favor of that.
