Wasn’t this bill passed in the Senate through reconciliation? And isn’t it true that bills containing taxation have to be passed with a 60-40 vote? If so then doesn’t this decision negate the Senate vote for passage?

C’mon, you post that same dang thing every damn day -

Do you have any brilliant solutions to go with your constant carping?

Well, then kow tow to Congress and the rest of government for refusing to repeal it, and bend to work before the lash of the political/regulator class socialists.

Or slow down, prepare yourselves for a long dry spell, and let it run out of money. If you’re self-sufficient and hard working enough, you won’t be forced to pay (no taxes owed). Little money required for living, little revenues out.

We’re not producing much of anything as a nation, and the bond collapse and remainder of default process are ahead anyway.

What Roberts said is that Congress cannot force the citizenry by law to buy health insurance, but it can coerce the citizenry by taxation to do so. This is a distinction without a difference.

Exactly! And John Roberts, all by his lonesome self, decided that it could "reasonably" be construed as a tax. A man in a black robe decides what is or is not a tax. So much for the separation of powers.

I say "Roberts alone" because the other four were going to sign on to anything to keep this monstrosity alive.

Well, I’d just like to know how this is a tax on INCOME as specified in the 16th Amendment.

but are you prepared for them having tanks and drones?

No, not individually. Though, if they come to my house individually to enforce it, then I have a chance.

For the record: I will find out the individual who sent them, and go up their chain of command.

Yes, it could eventually end bad for the Kehoe's, but they will be very cautious going to the next house.

The most likely next application will be requiring the purchase of “green energy” products. For example, every homeowner must install solar hot water heaters. If they do not, they have to pay a new energy tax.

Close enough. In California, we must now all have a carbon monoxide alarm in the house. It doesn't follow that every house will have to have a solar water heater, but eventually you will have to have one on the house when you sell it, or when you put on a new roof, etc. Plus LED lights in the kitchen and bathrooms, plus the right kind of gas heater for heating the house, etc.

This is a distinction without a difference.

No, there is a huge difference. Congress has always had the power of taxation, that was nothing new. Had this law been passed as a tax, it never would have gone to SCOTUS.

What Roberts has done is reined in the 'Commerce clause' which has been stretched beyond recognition, what he has done is also virtually assured the bill will be overturned and what he has done is proved Obama to be the liar that he is.

Obama 'won' a battle, but the war is not over.

In a strange sort of way, I believe Chief Justice Roberts has just lit the fuse on something we’ve been wanting for a long time.

A financial penalty for not buying something is a tax? How so?

It's economic fascism.

Roberts stabbed the Great Republic through the heart today. THAT is his legacy.
