Weekly Standard - Romney ^ | 6-28-2012 | self

(Need help with the wording) Congress shall make no law, or establish a tax, fee or mandate, which demands, forces or requires that any citizen be required or coerced to purchase any product or service, under penalty of law, that he or she does not want.

OK, it's not perfect, but you get the idea. Requires 2/3 in House and Senate, then sent to the states to ratify.

Get the wording right, and send it to Boehner as the first order of business when back in session.

While we are at it:

“No government agency, organization, or entity created by Congress in the past or future shall have legislative or judicial powers. For the purpose of this amendment, “legislative power” shall be construed to mean the making of any rule violation of which renders a citizen, legal entity, corporation, or company of any state or the United States to imprisonment, fine, excessive or punitive fee, or other punishment. “Judicial power” shall be construed to mean, the holding of any evidentiary hearing not presided over by an Article III court or the issuance of findings which result in imprisonment, fine, or punishment of a citizen, legal entity, corporation, or company of any state or the United States.

I’m sure congress has all kinds of little tweaks to the constitution they would like to make.

Repeal the 17th amendment, too.

Why go through the trouble of changing it when you can just ignore it?

...direct taxes are already unConstitutional - they’re ignoring that already.

We need to define ‘General Welfare’ & state emphatically that the Federal Government has absolutely NO authority within the states - only between the states. In other words, they arbitrate difficulties between the states.

A sad day for the Constitution. How about that amendment that made the rounds a while back requiring lawmakers to live under the laws they pass? A start anyway.

Congress is deliberately designed to work slowly to avoid knee jerk reactions. Democrats rushed Obamacare through at light speed for a reason. Congress is supposed to be a deliberative body, not a reactive one.

Even relatively good congressmen are a danger when they’re afraid. After the Gabby Giffords shooting Peter King was screaming about the need for new laws to protect congressmen.

Better to take our time and dot all our Is and cross or Ts.
