Think about this: The US intelligence community has a long pre-existing relationship with what is now called the Sinaloa Cartel. Unmarked, untraceable $50 and $100 bills in large numbers are the mothers milk of covert operations. The Sinaloa people can provide a lot of those items and need a secure banking and distribution network to survive and thrive. We provide the latter they the former. Enter the Zetas; much better organized having originated in the Mexican Army SOF. The Zetas are conducting a text book covert war of extermination of our crypto allies the SC. Also the Zetas have a deep covert relationship within the Mexican Army and probably Air Force. This is based on covert Zeta assets who remain in uniform throughout the military and heavily in the staff and intel sections. Besides becoming very rich the Zetas are becoming a subterranean quasi government in much of Mexico being embedded in key sectors of the armed forces, national police and justice and in government and banking. They have a close relationship with the PAN party through the banking sector. The Zetas or at least a fair number of their leaders do have an ideology . A crude ideology but one nevertheless. It is based on a combination of xenophobic Mexican nationalism , machismo, and the Aztlan concept of a ‘greater Mexico’ controlling Central America and the US Southwest. Their goal is to enable ‘native’ resistence groups funded by the money made from US drug sales to conduct a generally increasing terror and insurgent campaign to intimidate local and state US authorities and allow the same hollowing out process to occur in those agencies the Zetas have done and are doing in Mexico and now Honduras.
The US intelligence community has no current lonf term strategy to deal with this situation but is desperate to prop up the one major crypto asset it has in Mexico, the Sinaloas. To try and do that funneling a lot of hardware and ammo to the Sinaloas is in order. I suspect Holder is a very compromised man who some folks from the intel community made clear to him that the monumentally stupid ‘Gun Walker’ scheme would be put into operation by DOJ. Holder will either fall on his sword over this or if the Mahdi l;loses in November just disappear. GOP efforts to pursue legal action against him will be discouraged from far up in the GOP hierarchy as the intel community will make clear such action is ‘not prudent, not prudent at all’ to quote a former Republican President.

“Based on THAT damn picture, Ronald Weich actually gives credence to the occasional wacko conspiratorial theory that reptilians have taken human form and are subverting our government from within.

Good observation, mkjessup. It gave me the heebie-jeebies but I didn't know why until your post! HA!

I am pretty certain Bush 1 said this clearly on TV in response to the growing secession movement in the Ukraine. I am sure the foreign policy establishment wanted the USSR to remain intact and the Warsaw Pact to stay as well. Their great mantra was ‘the need for stability’ and they were frightened crapless of the false specter of armed chaos breaking out in eastern Europe and within the USSR if the Soviet Union collapsed. This is true. The end of the Cold War was greeted with dismay and general panic by much of the foreign policy establishment and Bush 1 and baker and Scrowcroft were in a state of sustained dismay about the sudden disappearance of the ‘structures of stability’ that they were used to.
