For three blissful days earlier this month, Raquel, a housekeeper living in Lynn, thought President Obamas recent announcement on immigration would solve all her problems.
Raquel was 4 when her parents brought her to the United States from Mexico; she has lived in America, undocumented, for more than a quarter-century.
But in the office of her immigration attorney, Jeffrey B. Rubin, Raquels hopes were dashed: She had turned 31 at the end of April. The presidential measure applies only to those under the age of 30 who came to this country when they were 16 or younger. She missed eligibility by less than two months.
It gets me angry, because why didnt he do this since the beginning [of his term]? said Raquel, who asked to be identified by her middle name because she fears deportation. I know that [Obama] is helping . . . but unfortunately, he has moved his game pieces too late for some of us.
Raquel thinks about where she would be now if Obama had pushed through the deferred action plan years ago.
But there is also a flip side of the eligibility constraints: Young people who arrived in the United States after they turned 16, too late to reap the benefits of the policy. They argue that while they may not have been a child when they arrived in American borders, they were still constrained by their parents decisions.
Vinicius Quirino, 26, came to the United States from Brazil just after he turned 17. When he first heard the announcement earlier this month, he said, he immediately felt joy for friends who would benefit from a work permit and a reprieve from the threat of deportation, but bemoaned his parents bad timing.

Oh what the heck. It’s only a couple of months. Give her amnesty.
Boo fricking hoo
Domino effect and division... Hey, I’m still waiting for my amnesty, which is to live without liberals around hanging at my neck like French slime or leeches.
So seize her assets, detain her, deport her. Problem solved. Have a nice day.
I love your corrolaries.
Sob stories will continue until everyone on the planet is a US citizens. It’s for the children.
I’m confused: was the author’s point that I should give a rat’s ass?
How many anchor babies has Raquel knocked out by now?
Well, somebody missed the documentation boat there didn't they?
Send her illegal a$$ back to where it belongs.
Boo Frickin' hoo too, two,to! So there, their, they're.
My kauphy is just now kicking in.
yeah lets make it 50 yrs old...their 80 year old parent brought them here.
Sure, only two months, but what about the illegals who miss by four months? Heck, give them amnesty too. Then the 6-monthers, then the ones who missed by a year. Then two years, then four years.
Why not just abolish the border, and make all Mexicans US citizens with full voting and welfare rights?
“Oh what the heck. Its only a couple of months. Give her amnesty.”
Lets just change it so anyone who is under 100 and were brought here before they turned 80 will now get amnesty.

he’ll give all the illegals, hell he’ll give all of Mexico “administrative relief” after he gets re-elected..
Team Obama took a hard look at the total illegal population and decided what subgroup was most likely to vote for him and the dimocrats. The older illegals had too much experience and life experience to be suckered in; the young were gullable enough to believe that his actions would solve all of their problems. Do I dare say “Obama stash from 2008/9?”
Illegal immigration has become the racial issue of the 21st century. Until politicians and ministers at all levels understand two things - patch work fixes only exacerbate the problem and like it or not the illegal immigrants are illegal from the moment they became immigrants - this issue will be a bleeding sore to be exploited for political gain by politicians of all stripes.
Just after the SC BS decision, BO announced amnesty for the parents of the “victims”. So she’ll get her voting rights with no problem. Let’s quit with the sob stories.
No need to fret.
This is only the first step by Obama to full forgiveness and amnesty for all illegal aliens.
He will implement the policy changes slowly in order to milk the maximum number of votes and extort the maximum amount of campaign donations.
After he finishes squeezing the illegals, watch for him to move on to pardons for convicted criminals.
There are many potential new democrat voters and financial contributors out there - it just takes time to cut the deals.
Dick Obama will keep expanding the date a bit at a time. Oops. You missed by a month? OK, let’s extend it a year. Oh, you missed by a week? OK, let’s extend it another year.
