Microstamping is an ineffective and expensive way to promote total gun registration. It is useless without gun registration, and registration is constitutionally repugnant to voters.

Worse than registration, it would require a mega-bureauacracy in place to retest weapons periodically. This would require that gun owners take their weapons in for annual retesting, since the microstamps can so easily be filed or worn off. Naturally, this will take a long time per gun, due to the backlog of testing. So for a few months per year, your weapons will be off for retesting, (at your expense).

If a firearms owner doesn't comply, intentionally or by omission (say, if he's out of the country on business or in the military) it will be felony city. Look at Illinois and their FOID cards, which are a felony trap for the unwary.

The real intention of microstamping will be to make gun ownership such a hassle, expense, and legal risk, that millions will simply give up their firearms as not worth it.

the Crime Gun Identification Act of 2012 that would require all new semiautomatic handguns sold in New York State, by 2014

Ah, since when have anyone been allowed to purchase a handgun (legally) in NY State to begin with?

Well, almost!

Naturally ALL miscreants, terrorists, criminals, etc. will dutifully abide by this new law (just as they have will all of the others in the past) and this will no doubt, curb all of the violence and crimes committed with guns. /sarc

I have an effective and patentable way of microstamping bullets as well as casings. Like a couple of other things, I’ll not submit it.

If this passes the State Senate, all rational criminals will simply switch to revolvers. It shows the total stupidity of Socialist politicians and the total complicity of the Socialist MSM.

Anti-gun, pro-criminal idiots. NY strikes again. I’m usalluy not for “banning” but this time I suggest banning all anti-gun idiots from this country. If anything, THEY should be microstamped so we can identify them.

And next on the agenda is a microstamping device for soda straws if the dispenser goes over a certain limit.

As we wait for the state Senate to act on this bill, brave law enforcement officers are being struck down by gun fire and innocent victims continue to be wantonly murdered. We can’t catch their killers because they fire anonymous bullets.

LIAR!

The bullets will still be anonymous, whether the shell casing is microstamped or not. This won't work, so then they'll want to put a serial number on every bullet. ** No more cheap ammo. **

For most criminal purposes Zip Guns work just great. New York is lousy with them.

So, tell me, are all these guys named "Sheldon" that stupid or is it just that they act that way?

Why should they? All they have to do is wipe and drop the weapon at the scene. You think they care if the source is tracked? Only the idiots will hang on to the weapon. Darwin will eliminate them from that particular labor pool PDQ.

History proves that the black market responds in the same manner as the regular market place. Demand generates supply and is priced accordingly.

I guess it only works with semi-autos huh? Unless the perp is stupid enough to dump his empty shell casings from his revolver at the crime scene. Of course most of these clowns KNOW that revolvers just ain’t as cool looking when holding them sideways.

Did anybody ever see the al queda training videos? If I was one of the trainers and saw one of the trainees doing this gangsta move like in the video they’d get a 9 to the back of the head as an example to the rest of the trainees. Think they’d get the hint that they are terrorists not gangstas?

Helping keep mankind warm for 65 years.

microstamping of bullets wont work reliably--deformation. some non-forming design will be required. but what about cast bullets? those will have to be outlawed. there is a huge supply of non-stamped bullets. theyll have to outlawed as well.

these unworkable schemes only serve to make people feel good while skewing the markelt. revovlers and non-ejecting case design will (re)emerge. the current population of non-stamped weapons and bullets, if not outlawed, will become fixed and artificially expensive. simple economics. we saw something similar with the AW and normal capacity mag ban of 1994.

There should next be a law requiring the collection of voice samplings of every human within the US. This will help investigators to ascertain the identity of potential criminals or plots retrieved from phone traffic on analyzed NSA recordings.

“as a prevention tool to combat gun trafficking”

Creating a demand for imported (from other states) goods will reduce “trafficking”. Yeah. Right.

It's a shame that stupidity can't be converted to electricity. We would have an endless source of energy!
