McGurn: Chief Justice Roberts Taxes Credibility
Wall Street Journal ^ | 7/03/2012 | WILLIAM MCGURN

Posted on 07/03/2012 2:22:22 PM PDT by nerdgirl

The day after the ruling came down, this newspaper carried an article that explained Justice Roberts's decision this way: "By confounding charges that the court is too partisan, the chief justice might have earned sufficient political capital to move to the right during the next term, when the court will likely confront a host of hot-button issues, including affirmative action, gay marriage and the continued vitality of the Voting Rights Act."

If earning "sufficient political capital" is simply a consequence of his ruling, Justice Roberts cannot be blamed. If it was the aim, however, and it led to his voting as chief justice in a way he would not have voted as an associate justice, he has raised rather than resolved questions about the integrity of the Roberts court.

Why is every “CONSERVATIVE”?? news pundits making excuses for this Chief Justice? This justice showed his complete abhorant to the constitution, by giving these liberals an out. Who cares whether OBAMA CARE is a penalty or a tax? IT’S UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Every one with more brains than a goat, realises this. But because this justice gave these Washington liberals the excuse why they passed this abhorant law, they can all go back to smoking their hemp, and be very satisfied that they have at least another Warren Court they can be satisfied with. While we the people keep trying to appoint CONSTRUCTIONIST justices, these justices keep stabbing us in the back.

How will Roberts rule if Obama decides he wants to be President for life...or at least a third term?

Well, the Constitution explicitly declares that a President cannot serve more than two four year terms.

So, obviously the Roberts fix would be to rule that despite the fact that many of us have always thought of a year as 365 days, it really is 1,000 days for the balance of the Obama term.

So how much did Roberts get in payback for this disaster?

He did worse than giving “liberals an out”. He shot them up with steroids by screwing up the ruling so bad the Commerce Clause and now Taxation give libs in Congress unlimited power to control our lives.

My suggestion? Buy more ammo.

Well, this gives Roberts precedence to rule in favor of the government when they tell everyone that unless they buy a GM car they’ll face a government penalty.

I think that’s complicated; if you turn on your friend the MINUTE they do something you don’t like, your friendship isn’t worth much. The very reason this came as such a surprise to many was that Roberts does NOT have a record of doing something like this. Despite some individual decisions to the contrary, his court has in fact been one of the more conservative ones. So actually the fact that conservatives didn’t immediately come out in force to crucify one of “their own” is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact it might differentiate us from the other side.

If you read this interview from 2007 of Roberts, you'll see how he perceives the Court's need for political capital, which is I suppose what mattered here.

Well, the Constitution explicitly declares that a President cannot serve more than two four year terms.

Remember how Roberts screwed up the oath of office and had to go redo it a day or so later? He'll simply rule that because of that, Obama's first term was less than four years and thus he is eligible to run again. Simple.

Roberts was either blackmailed or paid off (bribed). Either of which was greatly facilitated by having Sotomayer on the court who could tip off Obamination as to how the voting went and what needed to be done to get the ends both of them wanted. Pure corruption. Nothing else explains it.

Sad & true. Federal Employees think almost as little as they care when it comes to trampling upon our dwindling rights. Now it can’t honestly be said that we have much at all in the way of rights.
