If it’s gonna be so hard for the Senator to do, so hard that all he can commit to is “it will be the first item up in the Senate if I am majority leader”, perhaps we the people should pursue another avenue.
Perhaps it would be easier to work locally and demand our Governors and State Legislators also work toward a Constitutional Amendment that would repeal the ObamneyCare.
Some of the Governors of our largest states have already committed to not implementing ObamneyCare.
My letter to Senator McConnell:
Senator,
As long as you maintain a leadership role in the U.S. Senate, I AM a constituent, regardless of where I live.
Therefore, I fervently hope that a staffer has not deleted this communication because I’m not a Kentucky resident.
That being said, I hope you will read the words of Winston Churchill:
. we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. ... we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air ... We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.
Please take these words to heart, Senator McConnell. You are perceived, by Conservatives all across the United States, as feckless, and unwilling to FIGHT.
Please prove us wrong, Mr. Minority Leader.
Or we will work tirelessly to see to it that you are replaced as Majority Leader of the Senate.

Second, no one knows the size of Romney's cajones or his toughness when it comes to legislation that he PERSONALLY approves of, but which he knows the large majority of Americans do not approve of. So, with that caveat, let me ask this question:
If every part of the existing health care bill that involves action begins with "the Secretary of HHS shall determine/shall decide" . . . then it would seem to me that simply eliminating that agency and insisting Congress create a new one with ENUMERATED POWERS that would exclude health care decisions would be one way to approach this. For example, it could be re-merged as HEW, thereby diminishing Education and HHS at the same time. (I know, damn near impossible for someone like a Ron Paul or Allen West who has genuine principles, but I'm just throwing out different ways to undo this thing.)
I would hope that all GOP legislators and candidates are getting a lot of e-mails. And phone calls. And visits.
That is how the system is supposed to work. We, the people, must let our elected representatives know how we feel.
As for Rush, surely you understand that he has to be “so mad” at something continually in order to stay in business, no matter who is in office? Can you honestly remember a time when he was pleased with how things are going? He raved and ranted during the Bush years and helped get Pelosi and Reid into power, which provided much angst and good ratings.

Seems to me all we have to do is get “our guy” in as Secretary of HHS, and that one person can undo almost the entire debacle. Am I wrong?

There have been hundreds of waivers to the provisions of Obamacare issued already by the HHS.
Romney has said that on day one he will issue a waiver to all 50 States from the whole thing.
There is nothing to stop him from doing this.

I think the mainstream media is sowing discord among conservatives — their main passtime. Also, Rush blasted McConnell to kingdom come for his equivocation reported in the press. I’m sure others have piled on. This is why McConnell has to make it clear what he intends to do. Let’s hold his feet to the fire.

Absolutely. Seems in their rush to get this through they foolishly gave too much power to the Sec of HHS who answers to the Chief Exec. This makes the bill subject to the whim of the party in power and therefore constructed out of the thinnest of tissue paper. I think it will soon dawn on the left that the act is no longer a BFD. Hopefully in 4 short months...
It will be hard. That’s why we better get to work! 3 things must be done if we have any chance at all: Romney must defeat Obama, we must win control of the Senate, and we must maintain control of the House. Absent all three of those things happening, there is zero chance whatsoever of repealing the Obamacaretax monster. None.

The law grants the secretary of the HHS incredible discretionary power, but it doesn’t grant them the ability to take away that power from a future HHS secretary. We have to repeal the law.
The first thing that Congress needs to do is to void all exemptions and waivers from the Obamacare bill, including and especially the waivers for public employee unions. All teachers and SEIU members (and politicians, too)need to be thrown into the same system that they advocate for the rest of us.
It would make repeal must simpler if there were no waivers to consider.
Either void all exemptions or give everyone exemptions. I like the latter, but either one is a step forward.

Roe vs. Wade is NOT legislation. It was a court case. It had nothing to do with Congress at any stage. “Repeal” isn’t applicable. Congress can make law banning abortion if it wants to. But You’re conflating subjects here that have no relationship.

I am hoping that voiding all exemptions or waivers would result in everyone receiving a waiver.
My second choice would be to return to the old public health system to serve the military, the medicaid and all public employees, including teachers. Unfortunately, the medicare patients who do not have supplemental policies would be treated there as well.
It would be a tremendous savings for the cities and towns that are going broke paying government union benefits.
You mean by the states? How about expanding on that. What 7 times? The only incident where it was tried that I remember from my high school and college U.S. history and U.S. government classes was when South Carolina tried it with pretty-much mixed results, IIRC.

The timing is all wrong.
step 1: Elect Romney and GOP Congress
step 2: Get them to repeal Obamacare fully ASAP.
We need to get step 1 done before we even bash them for not doing step #2.
If we get the Senate, we need a ruthless conservative to lead it. Repealing Obamacare, all 2700 pages of it, is a matter of life and death. We can have no reconciliation to keep any part of it alive. McConnell failed to keep comrade Snow in line to block Obamacare from a vote. Because of Snow, we have Obamacare. Because of McConnel’s weakness, we have Obamacare.
After it has been repealed, we will debate options and proposals on how to handle the problems of non-coverage within the current health care system. Socialist Mittens may not be the dictator of what comes next because he’s already proven himself unable to respect economic freedom and self determination with Romneycare. Romney is going to have to be blocked and curtailed by conservatives in Congress when he tries to introduce ‘progressive’ solutions at a national and global level.
