Obama edges toward decision on plan that could mean large new cuts in nuclear arms
AP/Washington Post ^ | July 2, 2012 | AP

The Obama administration is moving toward decisions that would further cut the number of U.S. nuclear weapons, possibly to between 1,000 and 1,100, reflecting new thinking on the role of nuclear weapons in an age of terror, current and former officials say.

The reductions under consideration are in line with President Barack Obama's vision of trimming the nation's nuclear arsenal without harming national security in the short term, and in the longer term, eliminating nuclear weapons.

Who needs enemies, when we have Obama -- he wants to completely disarm the US, while other countries like Iran and N. Korea are aquiring nuclear weapons and are a clear and present danger to us, Israel and the world.

“the White House might put the decisions on hold until after November. ... some have suggested that reductions could be done unilaterally.”

Clearly Obama’s goal is to disarm the US and diminish it so it will cease to be a world power.

Happy Independence Day!

Everything Obama has done, is doing, and will do is aimed at the total destruction of the US, turning into a weak, pathetic communist country.

Illegals. Homosexuals. Health care vampires. Now, defense hara kiri ....
All 0’s doing is slowly, inexorably pushing conservatives, towards Mitt Romney.
If you boosters keep playing it cool—like this thread—instead of pushing him (like used car salesmen) on us, IMHO FR will be giving him `qualified’ support in the months to come, and the support will become stronger the closer we get to the end of October.
“Qualified”: If Mitt screws us over, he’ll face a contested race in four years.
The great amorphous middle is sick of Obama. We here detest him. All Gromit wants are the votes, so we give him his ball, with a rubber band attached to it: a fee simple determinable, as the lawyers put it. That’s realpolitic.
Durant said that civilizations are destroyed from within. It looks like Zero is covering his bets by attacking from within and now, by lowering our swords.
So, one more time—this is Romney’s to lose. Or win.

Obama CAN eliminate the US nuclear arm with an executive order probably, then we’ll be sitting ducks for every agressor, because nobody has to worry that we can retaliate severely.

That is Obama’s goal: disarm the US.

“Wgy does Zero not eliminate the Secret Service?”

He may be working on that. All these stories of SS malfeasance and inappropriate behavior, goofs. He could be preparing the ground for replacing SS with “his people”.

Here's #3 Norm.

But of course Romney must be the very same on this...../s. Good luck explaining yourself on this one, you know you can't but you'll sputter and froth anyway (and you know he wasn't the same on the first two either).........

But keep working for Bambi's reelection, you and the FR 50, he's sure to change his mind and get far better if we reelect him, I mean, after all he's no worse than Romney, right? Bambi would never sell out our superior military strength, right? So why in the world would we need to get rid of him, right?

:-)

Russia’s military spending soars
February, 2011

Russia has revealed details of its ambitious plan to upgrade its army over the next ten years, planning to spend US$650 billion on the project.

The unveiled large-scale plans of the Russian defense ministry propose the spending of vast sums of money up to 2020.

First and foremost, Russian defense will focus on the development of strategic nuclear weapons, construction of over 100 military vessels for Russian Navy, including construction of four originally French-made Mistral-class amphibious assault ships, and the introduction into the Air Force of over 1,000 helicopters and 600 military planes, including fifth generation PAK-FA fighter.

Most of the military hardware will be equipped with next-generation weaponry.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[not win it -etl]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert [they are NOT on "hair-trigger alert" now -etl], and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

Open Mic Catches Obama Asking Medvedev for Space on Missile Defense
March 26, 2012

"In a private conversation about the planned U.S.-led NATO missile defense system in Europe, President Barack Obama asked outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for space on the issue.

This is my last election,” Obama told Medvedev. “After my election I have more flexibility.”

“I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir,” Medvedev said, referring to incoming President Vladimir Putin."

__________________________________________________

Obama was talking with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev when neither of them realized that their conversation was being picked up by microphones. Here is what they said:

Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved, but it’s important for him to give me space.”

Medvedev: “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you ...”

Obama: “This is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility.”

Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”

“This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.” That statement tells us much about the president’s mindset.

The specific mention of missile defense is worrisome enough. Mr. Obama has retreated from the missile defense plan that was negotiated with European allies during the George W. Bush administration. Apparently, he is signaling Moscow that he intends to retreat further. The clear implication from the president’s comments is that he cannot tell the American people before the election what he plans to do after the election.

In addition, there is the phrase “on all these issues,” implying more is at stake than just missile defense.”

...trimming the nation's nuclear arsenal without harming national security in the short term, and in the longer term, eliminating nuclear weapons.

Cannot be done, period, end of story. Disarming in the face of your enemy does hurt national security. Eliminating nuclear weapons can only be done by finding something more powerful.

The only reason our soldiers don't ride into battle on horseback with sabers drawn is that we developed more powerful weapons. Same thing with nuclear weapons. No-one, NO ONE, has ever intentionally, peacefully disarmed. The only way anyone has ever undergone a reduction of arms is involuntarily. Whether it is through armed conflict that they ultimately lose, or economic hardship that eventually reveals their government/economic system as sub-standard (eg. socialism)... That is the only reason anyone has ever disarmed. hussein's dream is insane.

Even if you buy into a totally defensive strategy (which is really, really stupid by the way - as anyone who has studied the matter can tell you), you need an offensive and retaliatory capability to compliment a defensive posture. hussein's dream is stupid, unrealistic, and treason.

I realize that a nuclear weapons free world sounds great. Seems like such a good idea, such an ideal situation. That's the problem with liberals and idealists - they get wrapped up in a grand idealistic vision, that has absolutely no practical way of coming about. No matter how ideal a world without weapons of mass destruction would be, it is never going to happen, never. All you lib lurkers need to wake up and realize that one simple, irrefutable and unalterable fact. There will always be weapons of mass destruction in this world. If we don't have them, someone will be using them against us and/or a lot of other people. End of story. Therefore all your idealism, your wishing/hoping/praying/dreaming it was otherwise is completely futile. What you're wishing for, if we actually did it, would directly result in the death of millions. Now, still want to change things? Are you a psychopath or a realist?
