Romney to bolster communications team amid conservative tempest

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — Mitt Romney is planning to fortify his communications and messaging team by adding seasoned operatives, advisers close to the campaign said Thursday, after withering criticism from prominent conservative voices that his insular team has fumbled recent opportunities.

Romney’s advisers insisted that he would keep his inner circle intact amid growing concerns about the Republican presidential candidate and his campaign. The tempest began with a weekend tweet from media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and burst Thursday onto the pages of his newspaper the Wall Street Journal, as its conservative editorial board opined that Romney’s advisers were “slowly squandering an historic opportunity” to beat President Obama.

There are no plans, however, to alter Romney’s core team of advisers, most of whom have worked for the former Massachusetts governor for years, and campaign officials said it was highly unlikely that Romney would demote or fire any of his senior staffers.

“I don’t sense any panic. I don’t sense that any heads are going to roll,” said Tom Rath, a longtime senior adviser to Romney. “The idea that this guy at this point having gone through what he’s gone through is going to somehow scramble the eggs on the team — they don’t know Mitt Romney.”

“The idea that somebody other than Beth Myers, Eric Fehrnstrom, Matt Rhoades, Stuart Stevens and Peter Flaherty are going to call the shots, it’s just plain wrong,” Rath said, ticking through Romney’s closest advisers, including Rhoades, the campaign manager, and Stevens, the chief strategist.

FDR was a lot more skilled with the smoke and mirrors than Obama is.

It’s as easy to say that given the potential scandal, he took one for the team. (Romney also handled it awkwardly.)

It's not like this is a peasant society. People have educations. They know what goes on.

So how did Obama get elected? Did people not read about his record in senate and Illinois legislature? Never underestimate the addictive power of free money in the form of a government check for doing nothing.

When it comes to the black vote JFK only got 70%. NIxon's first race drew 30% LBJ got 97%.

At some point the black vote morphed into 40% of the internal Democrat vote ~ and they began to control who became the Democrat nominee.

Obama got elected by winning 10 million more votes than McCain.

More importantly Obama got the nomination from the Democrats by beating the horrid Clinton woman into the political dirt, but it was "their turn" anyway. She didn't stand a chance.

Correct. Even if your are getting your entire sustenance off the gubmint teat, it is far, far better to have fewer people competing for those teats than more and far, far better to have more people producing milk than fewer.

Zer0 has proven adept only at growing the dependent class while shrinking the producer class.

Maybe so, but he didn’t pay nearly as well. There was no such thing as welfare when I was a kid, there was commodity cheese and some basic staples, but most people would not touch them.

Guns and Butter Lyndon, now he really upped the pay, but it took Zero, to max out the payroll.

By the way, they did have "poor farms" where people could go and earn their keep, but it was a last resort, not first.

ABOUT FRIGGIN' TIME. I've heard that politicians do peruse sites like this one to get the pulse of their base, and to hear complaints from their base also.

Conservs in the media and in politics have to keep pounding the Romney campaign NOT TO DIS any conserv help, voters or even platform agendas. It is the only way he has any chance to win regardless what so called moderate Pubs say. A united Indies, Libertarian,TEAS,Reagan Dems, and all wings of the GOP will win in Nov. and Mitt better be made clear upon that fact.
