Disability Ranks Outpace New Jobs In Obama Recovery

More workers joined the federal government's disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation's jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama's economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

In other words, the number of new disability enrollees has climbed 19% faster than the number of new jobs created during the sluggish recovery.

And the disability ranks will continue to swell. In just the last month, almost 275,000 put in applications for disability benefits. Experts say that more people try to get on disability when jobs are scarce, and changes to eligibility rules enacted back in 1984 have made it far easier to qualify.

In addition, while job growth has been very weak during the recovery, the total number of people who've dropped out of the labor force entirely has exploded, climbing 7.3 million since June 2009, and IBD analysis of BLS data show. Some of them aged into retirement, but most either signed up for disability, stayed in school, moved back in with parents, or just quit looking for a job.

As a result, "labor force participation rate" — the number of people who have jobs or actively looking for one compared with the entire working-age population — is now 63.8%, down from 65.7% in June 2009. This participation rate is lower than it's been in 30 years.

The Democrats are working as hard and as fast as they can to buy votes using disability and agent orange compensation. They always seem to find a way to use other peoples money to achieve their objectives. We all probably know someone that is receiving disability compensation yet they seem to be able to do whatever they want to do.

I know a guy that is receiving agent orange compensation to the tune of over $3000 per month. It is higher than his social security check. His wife will be eligible to receive half of his OA money for the rest of her life if he predeceases her. The closest that he got to agent orange in Vietnam was spending five nights in an air conditioned hotel in Saigon while waiting to be transferred to his ship off the coast of Vietnam. What a joke. Oh, he has serious health problems, but not because of agent orange. He just started getting the payments. Obama in action. Buy as many votes as you can.

It used to be that the lawyers around here ran adverts on tv ambulance chasing car wrecks.

Now they’re all looking for Social Security disability clients.

Of course I have no data or anything to support this theory, but I think the 0bama adminstration is figuring that anyone on disability is a potential vote to re-elect him, so they are being very light on requirements to qualify for disability.

Re: “Disability Outranks New Jobs”

Get used to it.

This is just a foretaste of what will happen if we try to “solve” the Social Security and Medicare crisis by raising the retirement age.

Keep seniors in the workforce until age 70?

Then also plan on this...

(1) Dramatic increase in work injury claims.

(2) Dramatic increase in age related discrimination lawsuits.

(3) Dramatic increase in business crushing age discrimination laws.

(3) Dramatic increase in government agencies and bureaucrats to “help and protect” working seniors.

This makes it seem that is so easy to collect SS disability.
I had an accident at work in July 2006, ended up having five major surgeries in three years.
Declared disabled at 50%, but cannot collect because even though I have the right amount of quarters, not enough fall in the ten years before I was injured. (A real slight towards stay at home mom’s who go back to work).
Nope, can’t work because my injuries don’t allow me to work in my career field and don’t have experience else where.
((((sigh))))
So I wonder how all these people even are able to collect?

Incredible. Have your video taking devices ready to expose these blood suckers doing whatever, while claiming they can’t work.

Then, put the videos on You Tube.

Just as with EVERY government program intended to address a true need,

the left has corrupted this one (notice I didn’t say “allowed it to become corrupt”, they do it on purpose)
such that the freeloaders and scammers can easily take advantage of it,

whilst those who are truly in need and honest about it have a lot more trouble getting help.

It’s intentional.

Not just Social Security. After two years on disability you are also eligible for Medicare.

nobama hates you, hates your family, hates your freedom, hates your success, hates the Constitution, hates the Bill of Rights, hates Free America, hates Americans. nobama is a hate crime foisted upon America. Everything nonbama does is intentional. God help us all.

And how many college and high school graduates were added to the labor force with this spring's graduations. Surely it is also much more than the 80,000 jobs "added."

I looked, but could not find that statistic. Can it really be held back till after November?

The new disability is being depressed about not finding a job. . .

Boy, are you wrong. It used to be pretty easy, I’m told. But no more. From what I hear today they automatically turn people down on their first try. I know someone who truly is disabled and she’s having problems getting SSI. He lawyer said they’ve really tightened up.

So SS is not paying people to vote for obama. Otherwise they’d all be approved and there’d be no need for an election.

Turning applicants down on their first try for disability could be the administrations payback to lawyers. The lawyer employment act.

Did you apply for disability in 2006 or more recently? The answer was you were 4 years too early.

If it was in 2006, maybe they were still being hard arses about who got it. If we have had such a huge jump in the last couple of years, they have to have loosed the criteria for qualifying.
