New Friction Grows Between Romney, Conservatives over Obamacare
Newsmax ^ | Thursday, 05 Jul 2012 07:54 PM

For months, Republican Mitt Romney's presidential campaign was a picture of discipline, charting a relatively steady course for the former Massachusetts governor through a bitterly contested primary season. In recent weeks, however, Romney's tight ship has not looked so tight.

Romney's missteps on issues such as immigration and healthcare - and images of him on a jet ski during a vacation at his New Hampshire estate this week - have exasperated some supporters who are calling for a shake-up of his staff and worrying he could bungle Republicans' chances of ousting Democratic President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 election.

The concerns were summarized in an editorial late on Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal, which said Romney's Boston-based staff was "slowly squandering an historic opportunity."

"Mr. Obama is being hurt by an economic recovery that is weakening for the third time in three years," said the Journal, whose editorial page is a barometer of the thinking of leading conservatives. "But Mr. Romney hasn't been able to take advantage, and if anything he is losing ground."

......

Last month, Romney struggled to articulate a detailed response to Obama's executive order that stopped deportations of thousands of children of illegal immigrants.

The Republican - who trails Obama badly among Latino voters - still has not come up with an immigration plan that might cut into Obama's lead among Hispanics without angering Romney's conservative base.

Romney's decision to take this week off at his lakeside home in New Hampshire - which led to the photographs of the multi-millionaire zipping around on a jet ski with his wife, Ann - prompted some fellow Republicans to say that Romney had blown a chance to strike a more patriotic theme around the nation's July 4 Independence Day holiday on Wednesday.

I didn’t expect much, so I am not being disappointed. What happened with the Supreme Court was a bit of a surprise, but it’s no surprise that Romney cannot capitalize on it. So it’s playing out pretty much as expected. The folks that say we have to accept what the establishment Republicans dish out and then hold their feet to the fire to make them do what needs to be done, are going to be the
frustrated ones. Many of us have seen this football many times and know it can’t be kicked.

“Everyone was/is confused about the Roberts ruling but he dealt with it firmly and decisively.”

No. Actually he didn’t. JUST like his speech this morning about the jobs report, he says all the right words. And sounds like he’s speaking the words in his sleep. There is not ONE ounce of emotion. He sounds like a sleepwalking potted plant. People are ANGRY as hell out here. We are losing our country FGS! This is NOT the time to be entirely emotionless. I am NOT saying he needs to pound the table, but....come ON!!

Most folks aren’t even paying attention right now. They’re working and thinking about their summer vacations. Even if all the networks played video of Romney on a jet-ski this week, how many people do you think actually SAW it? And frankly, what’s the problem with him being on a jet-ski at his summer home? Do folks realize just how many people in New England, even those of modest means, have summer homes and jet-skis? It’s certainly not the mark of a rich person, even though the MSM tries to make it out to be that way.

“Many here are out lying about Romney and ignoring the sins of Obama.”

Odd, isn't it?

Many are also railing against Roberts, yet completely and stubbornly ignore the four other members of the SCOTUS who voted with him.

No wonder more and more citizens are registering as Independents or just not voting at all.
The choice in November is Romney or Obama.
Pick one.
We do not have the option of choosing None of the Above.

“Romney or Obama is not much of a choice.”

That is, if you have the brains equivalent to a pile of dog manure.

To anyone with an ounce of sense, this nation can’t survive another four years of Obama.

And as Mark Levin wisely stated, if you’re gonna sit home and not vote, (and I quote) “Well, screw you!”

“Hope this site is a huge outlier and I think it is.”

It is. Real conservatives are plenty riled, as Rush and Mark Levin mention endlessly.

The imbeciles who want to sit home on election day are part of the problem.

If Obama wins another term, thereby providing the final nail in America’s coffin (if it hasn’t been hammered already), we can thank these morons.

They get to tell their great-grandchildren what it was like when America was free, and how they were such geniuses, how they “stood on principle,” sat on their butts, and allowed it to happen.

the goal of the MSM is to keep the senate.

by distracting with romney and robers and obama, they have conservatives stay home and the left keeps the senate.

WE MUST TAKE THE SENATE.

Obviously, conservatives need to shut up, go back to the back of the bus, sit down, and keep sending in the donations. We'll rattle your cages when we need to you to get up and vote.

Back of the bus??? You wish! Conservatives go on the roof with Seamus!

I'll give you an "A" for effort, but an Z for effectiveness, as most of us here realize just how DANGEROUS and a "REAL" threat, Dear Leader is as opposed to Mittens and will do whatever we need to do to keep him from getting a 2nd term.

But feel free to keep posting all that banal, dated, drivel and hyperbole about Romney, as you might just get one or 2 more (which would add up to maybe 10) Freepers to join your "Suicide Pact."

obamasmug

"I thank you and a few other Freepers for all you are doing towards helping me win another term.

David Axelrod and David Plouffe also thank you for making their job that much easier.

My Chicago-Thug, Political Machine extends their heartfelt appreciation.

The same applies for all my good Muslim Brotherhood buds
who have I recrtuited as personal confidants and advisers
as they work diligently (on my behalf)
to replace the Constitution with Sharia.

You HATE-ROMNEY/MORMON folks at FR keep this up
and I'll see if I can get you a gig
with the WA [Com]Post or the NY [Slimes] writing opinions on Mittens.

Thank, you, thank you, thank you!!!

I don’t think jet-skiiing on the 4th is the problem. In fact, there’s probably a whole water sports or wealth sector of the population that finds it satisfying that the Romney’s enjoy water recreation. So, me and my boat are not offended at all.

The problem is Romney’s slow response to the immigration issue and his glacially slow response to the constitutionality question regarding ObamaCare.

His response today on the jobs report was decent.

I’m not a Romney supporter, but I’m not going to lie because I’m supposed to obfuscate the truth regarding candidates not my own.

Romney comes across as real unsure of himself, he comes across slow so he can test the political winds, and he comes across sketchy, giving the impression that he doesn’t have a detailed fix in place for these issues. (The exception is the economy in which he has what: a 58 point plan.)

He needs to address immigration IN DETAIL. He needs to spell out his plan to repeal ObamaCare IN DETAIL.

He needs to punch instead of tweak.

He is such a habitual liar that he cannot remember what lies he has told and when. He is afraid to say anything knowing he will likely contradict himself. It would be hilarious except for the fact that he is the GOP nominee. He is what conservatives are supposed to vote for. You kidding me? I am having 2nd thoughts about voting for this scum. At least with a GOP house and senate President Husein will be virtually powerless.

This is the reason the Dems wanted badly to face him. Santorum or Newt, or even Paul would be up 5-6 points at this point.

Newt tried like hell to let us know what was coming, but oh no, he was going negativvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeee. By the way, Romney sliced and diced his fellow republican candidates far more than he is Obama. What a joke.

I agree.

I decided just being “angry” and venting on a website, attending a few TEA party events, and voting wasn't good enough anymore.

I signed up as a volunteer at my local Republican Party HQ.
No, I am not going to charge in and pretend I know how and why everything “should” be done, or pretend I know more than people who have worked there for years, or that I have the answers that will fix the USA.

I don't like professional politicians, but they are integral to our form of government right now.

Romney is the only viable alternative to Obama now.
I don't have to like that, but that is a fact, and no matter my opinion of it, that fact wont change.

I can still help impact who wins the Florida Republican primary race for the Senate next month, but only if I, personally, help get conservatives and all registered Republicans off their high hobby horses aka their lazy asses, to vote next month, and yet again in November.

The next task will be to convince Republicans and conservative leaning Independents to bestir themselves to actually vote in November.

Frankly I will endure the slower, inexorable swing of the political pendulum back towards the conservative right, rather than rush to participate in a bloody civil war.

That's just my choice, given the reality right now.

If we devolve into a civil war, at least my dead grandparents, and my potential grandchildren will know I actually worked to avoid it, rather than just B and M about how awfull/evil/unfair the world is.
