Finland Would Rather Exit Euro Than Pay for Others

Finland would rather leave the euro zone than pay down the debt of other countries in the currency bloc, Finnish Finance Minister Jutta Urpilainen said in a newspaper interview Friday.

"Finland is committed to being a member of the euro zone, and we think that the euro is useful for Finland," Urpilainen told financial daily Kauppalehti, adding though that "Finland will not hang itself to the euro at any cost and we are prepared for all scenarios."

"Collective responsibility for other countries' debt, economics and risks; this is not what we should be prepared for," she added.

Maybe Finland is not as socialist as we think.

They’re coming to their senses, apparently.

I have English friends who love their “free” health care and complain about the high taxes. They never see the irony of it either.

For similar reasons, the US should withdraw completely from the United Nations. The US funds about 20-25% of the UN, which consists of over 160 countries, and spends hundreds of billions in taxpayers’ dollars “giving” to poorer countries where their corrupt leaders siphon off the money.

The very reason the UN was fostered upon the taxpayers of the US by our liberal corrupt politicians for under the table kickback donations.

Change the location, change the appearance and change the language, but socialism is still socialism. It’s all good to drink the milk, but nobody wants to pay for it.

I agree, socialism is socialism, but I was talking to a Greek immigrant guy at work, and got his prospective. He said that friends and relatives who remained in Greece used to laugh at emigrant Greeks. It's not just the official mess, but Greece has become profoundly corrupt, people take advantage of the system without the least qualms, make dubious claims and are happy to let the Germans pay.

The Danes are living off a reservoir of work ethic and capital, when that runs out they will be as bad off as the Greeks, but without the pleasant climate.

Socialism by its very nature leads to massive corruption. Any political system that violates Natural Law eventually returns to it, albeit in hidden or obscured form. Wealth still calls the shots, politics rules over merit and people learn to use the system to their benefit. There’s no incentive to work or to change.

Whenever someone longs for America to be more like Europe you can be certain they don’t know history, math or economics. They’re most likely a valedictorian from a government school, will graduate cum laude from an Ivy-league school and go on to determine policy for 300 million Americans. Ignorance is the most persistent disease of liberalism and the resilience of a bad idea always impresses me.

I was talking to someone else on another thread and wondered out loud how many Texas A&M Law School grads ever served or were even nominated for SCOTUS? I’ve met many Ivy league grads and they’re not that sharp. They get a lot of positive reinforcement just because of the name and the echo chamber/job placement takes care of the rest.

Finland's right on this - paying down the debt of counties that damn well knew they were going in the hole is throwing good money after bad. The only thing learned would be spend it today, hit up responsible countries tomorrow.

That’s a good book and I’m startled that school kids still get to read it.
