The Worst Marriage in Georgetown
NY Times Magazine ^ | 7-6-12 | Franklin Foer

Posted on 07/07/2012 3:50:25 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Dinners were served in the basement. Ambassadors, generals with many stars, senior White House officials and closely read columnists — all would walk past the yellowing kitchen, which looked as if it hadn’t been updated since the Ford administration, and down a narrow flight of stairs into the dimly lighted dining room. Guests were arrayed around the table according to rank, with the most important ones squeezed in the center. Although the Old World meals could be quite elaborate — venison paté, duck in bitter orange — they were prepared and served entirely by the host, a stickler for protocol named Albrecht Muth.

Muth liked to refer to his Georgetown row house, which technically belonged to his wife, the journalist Viola Drath, as the Albrechtory. Guests at their dinners included Anne Patterson, Obama’s ambassador to Egypt; Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift; and Pierre Salinger, the Kennedy courtier, followed by his little white dog. Antonin Scalia was another guest, and Muth liked to joke about the time he asked Scalia to officiate his wedding: “Will you marry me?” Muth inquired. “Well, I’m already married,” Scalia replied. In 2006, even Dick Cheney emerged from his bunker to attend a party that Drath hosted.

The couple’s cachet had nothing to do with wealth, however. They lived frugally, mostly off Drath’s first husband’s pension. Nor was it based on their résumés. He once started a small NGO; she wrote articles for a German financial daily. What they possessed was an exquisite understanding of the anxieties of the city’s elite — and an awareness of the power of eccentricity in a city that has little of it. Drath was 44 years older than her husband, a disparity in age that was accentuated further when he referred to her as “madam.”

Viola Drath and Albrecht Muth in June 2001.

Read the whole thing. It is staggering how the Washington power elite can be so easily fooled. This reads like a Dominic Dunne tale.

Under the made-up moniker of staff brigadier general, Muth organized the Third National Observance event marking Iraq’s Liberation Day on April 9, 2010.

Well worth reading. An example of the Washington Elite, the Rulers of the Universe, Our Betters; who turn out to be sadistic, delusional, fruit bats.

I’m reminded of many of the old Roman emperors who achieved total power and were utterly morally corrupt and/or mad like Caligula, Nero, or Tiberius. D.C. seems to attract the same crowd... and now these sorts of people get to control our very health.

“It is staggering how the Washington power elite can be so easily fooled.”

This ‘johnnyhouse rat’ - I really like that! - is a homosexual psychopath who understood what the elite lust for, and consequently, what blinds them:
the lust for more power.

How sick and shallow it all is!

The comparisons to the crazies of old are apt. I go the other way, wondering where has the spirit of service to the republic has gone. Why has it died? The human heart, left unattended by Christ, will always lust for more (power, money, etc.)...this is how it always ends.

I too, am “afraid for the republic”.

He is gay. She is 44 years older than him and supports him based on her deceased husbands pension and savings. They falsified their backgrounds. Their parties attract the Washington elite. He bludgeoned and strangled her to death. The article offers a small insight into the world of the Washington elite.

Of course, these moves on our 'healthcare', have nothing to do with their 'caring' about our health. It is controlling our lives; that brings a 'light' to their eyes. And Republicans could do a far better job of educating all who have yet, to 'get' who these people are; and what animates - and motivates - them.

That was my first thought.

Washington is filled to the brim with folks who understand power and nothing else.

Muth's genius (and there is no doubt he is "some kind" of genius) is very much like that of Obama, except Obama has used his to prey upon those who view the world through the lens of racism instead of that old Teutonic culture of Albrecht Muth.

I like con men because they make life interesting. I particularly like them when they are made to pay the piper.

Obama knows he is being pursued by his piper (and I imagine he enjoys the thrill of being pursued). But it will be great fun when justice finally catches up.

Part of me even wonders if the NYT ran this article because they know it will resonate, consciously and unconsciously, because of Muth's parallels with Obama.

I read the entire article. Absolutely amazing. Astonishing. Beautifully written story. The guy Albrecht Muth is quite a world class cuckoo bird and con artist. He’s the liberal’s liberal, even fooled George Soros. I love how Soros complimented him that he was the kind of guy that would close the over door on Soros during World War II. Soros liked that about him. Further proof that Soros is also utterly insane, perfectly matched to his insane leftists fantasy view of the world.

With the media elites finally vetting Obama’s two(!) memoirs, the term ‘fabulist’ has been thrown out there to describe him. This, from his fans.
