As far as him being hypocritical (as the article states) with his past criticism of Obama’s bowing tendencies, there is a difference when it comes to the proper protocol of a president versus that of an individual. The former is representative of an entire nation, and as such needs to take special care not to be seen as placing himself (his nation) in a position of subservience, even if only for a moment, even if only as a seemingly meaningless gesture.
