Not a big Newt fan, but I don’t see the big deal here. He couldn’t shake her hand (customs), so he bowed. And is she really a “terrorist” because she used to be part of the Ayatollah’s posse? Today, her group OPPOSES the Mullahs who are the enemy. The enemy of my enemy....etc. Duh. Also, this is in The Atlantic, home of that double-gated douchebag Andrew Sullivan. ‘Nuff said.
He is at this time a private citizen and is free to bow to whoever the hell he wants to because he is not an office holder or an official representative of the United States.
The problem I have with this whole thing is his agreeing to hold court with a Communist organization. When I was in Iran, 72-74, we were dealing with their acts of terrorism as well. An Army Lt. Colonel was assassinated by a motorcycle riding terrorist as he was going from his house to his car. This was just three doors down from my residence at the time. His family was waving goodbye through the window when it happened and they killed the driver as well.
We caught them (driver and shooter) without a shot being fired as they were trying to get away. They missed a curve on a narrow street just off Saltanatabad Avenue and were splattered against the wall they hit. They were not wearing helmets if you know what I mean.
LOL! The Ahmadinejad government and the mad mullahs of Iran define the MEK as “terrorists”
Now what does that tell you?
(the West has been supporting the MEK (very limited) for years as a way to stick it to the Iranian govt that was killing our soldiers in Iraq with IED’s amng other bad things ...too bad so sad)
You might want to understand who "officially" designated this a terrorist group before you throw Newt under the ass kissing terrorist bus...
The real issue seems to be that they are designated a terrorist organization by the Washington government because they presently wage irregular warfare against the regime in Iran. From the article:
“Maryam Rajavi, the woman who so warmly received Newt Gingrich’s bow, is the president-elect of the NCRI. But she’s better known as the “principal leader” of Mujahadeen-e-Khalq or MEK, which is officially designated by the United States as a terrorist group. (The MEK, designated a terrorist group by the European Union until 2009, is also the largest group within the NCRI.) The MEK participated in the 1979 Iranian revolution, but later turned against the theocratic government, which it has opposed in part with terrorist attacks against Iranian officials, embassies, and civilians.”
If they were doing the same thing for the other side I suppose they would be “Freedom Fighters”, such as those we assisted in Egypt and Libya.
LOL! Heres a better one- Maine Senator Susan Collins curtseys to Qadaffi less than 3 years ago (August 2009) watch at :30 into the video
She is such an idiot, Qadaffi obviously ignoring her
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNfztA1i0ts&feature=relmfu
In 2009 Juan McQueeg with his buddy mazel tov Joe Lieberman was over in Libya fawning on Qadaffi to try to get him to buy US arms.
Now he is in Libya claiming the elections are a great success.
Do we have video of the Damascus Diva, BurqaGirl Nancy Pelosi bowing to Assad on her unauthorized visit to Syria in 2007? Probably not
Memo to Mittwits:
Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin are not running for president in 2012, so you can stop demonizing them now. Why not turn some of the vitriol you have for conservatives on socialists Obama and the Democrats?
I did not throw Newt under the bus. As I wrote, the EU has removed MEK from its terrorist list. I also wrote that Newt gave an excellent speech. My point was to inform FReepers who are interested in Newt. Judging by the other comments, there are definitely differing viewpoints among FReepers.
Max Fisher, writing in 'The Atlantic', shills for the Obama reelection campaign with this: The former speaker of the house traveled to Paris last week to speak to an Iranian exile group led by Maryam Rajavi, who also heads an officially designated terrorist group called MEK.
Amen.
