End of the road
It’s time to send Tim Murray packing, Deval
By Howie Carr | Sunday, July 8, 2012 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Will somebody please, please put Lt. Gov. Tim Murray out of our misery?

Tiny Tim is a lost soul, the abandoned puppy of Massachusetts politics, neutered but not de-wormed (as shown by his relationship with Mike McLaughlin).

Surely someone can find him a new home, preferably in the country. Gov. Deval Patrick, this means you.

Tiny Tim doesn’t need anything big. I pulled his bar-exam records at the office of the clerk of the SJC, Suffolk County. Like most of Crash Murray’s curriculum vitae, it’s below average: Took the bar exam July 1994. Took the bar exam February 1995. Took the bar exam July 1995 – and finally passed!

No surprise. Remember January 2007, when he was being sworn in by future felon Sal DiMasi. DiMasi says, “Raise your right hand,” and up goes Murray’s southpaw.

At heart, Tiny Tim is still what he used to be — a city councilor. Something can always be arranged for these ham-and-eggers. Look at the state rep from Worcester, Vinny Pedone. A sheep in sheep’s clothing. He got some kind of job with state colleges — excuse me, “universities.” Anyway, he’s making about $130,000, more than the lieutenant governor.

Charlie Murphy, another rep, from Burlington, ended up on the wrong side of the last speaker’s fight. He just quit to take a new job. Ditto Sen. Steve Baddour, and Rep. Jim Vallee, and some guy from Holyoke who just got hired by the gas company. They’re dropping like flies up there.

Governor, surely you could arrange some sort of Jim Brett-type job for him. He could go on NECN every Sunday morning and talk with Paul Guzzi about bicycle lanes. Forgotten but not gone.

Have you seen Murray lately? He looks hunted, and I think it’s Mike McLaughlin he’s sweating. Let me tell you, I would hate for Mike McLaughlin to have something on me, especially if he was jammed up with a grand jury, which he is.

One thing about McLaughlin, he has always been an astute judge of weakness, and he surely knew what he had on the line the first time he hooked the “mayor” of Worcester.

Most people figure now that’s why Tiny Tim was doing 108 mph. in the Crown Vic at 5:20 a.m. in Sterling last November. He was scared. He still is.

Two reasons to move Murray out right now. No. 1, Barack Obama could lose. No. 2, he could win.

If Barack loses, there’s a new U.S. attorney in January, a Republican. Deval Patrick is said to want to run for president in 2016. Murray has already testified under oath in the McLaughlin matter. Do I have to draw you a diagram?

No. 2, Barack wins, and (more likely) Deval decides this is his big opportunity to grab some serious Vernon Jordan money — steam control, as Tom Wolfe put it. Deval resigns and, well, remember “acting governor” Jane Swift?

I know, Tiny Tim has some awesome responsibilities. He’s “poised” to become leader of the, drumroll please, National Lieutenant Governors’ Association. Just this week, he made his first visit ever to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. — ending years of disappointment in which he was inexplicably passed over for a trip to the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the White House lawn.

He’ll go, Deval. Just promise Tiny Tim another trip to the White House next Easter. He may not believe you, but just give him a note from the Easter Bunny and he’s gone.

I was down at my kids house in Haverhill and I was wondering why Baldour wasn't running? Another Methuen hack down the drain?

Awww... sad news about Ernest Borgnine. Loved him in the movie "Marty". One of his many great performances.

I'm sorry to hear about Andy Griffith as well, although those commercials he did for ObamaCare really annoyed me.

RIP, Ernie and Andy...

Deval Patrick is said to want to run for president in 2016.

Well, now. That's one way to get him out of New England.

OTOH, he is certainly a lot more presentable than the present recumbent, even if equally and shallowly worthless. At least he is clearly is some sort of an American. Tell me again how he got to be Governor?

My theory was that it was because he looked like the "Old Family Retainer" type guy on the Uncle Ben's Box. But, I am open to any scientific explanation. BTW, we don't know a damn thing about Tim Murray around here. From what you folks say he does sound like a man who knows enough to do exactly as he is told.

Gilda Radner passed on, but at one point in an interview or maybe it was in her book It’s Always Something she said :”I didn’t want to be a comedian with a catch phrase, like Marty Allen who always used to say ‘hello dere’”

Dems’ rule: Tax as I say, not as I pay
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, July 11, 2012 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Try not to let this destroy your faith in the integrity of the Mass. Democratic Party, but it appears that we have another elected tax deadbeat on our hands.

I refer of course to Rep. Carlos “Tony” Henriquez (D-Dorchester). The 35-year-old is charged with assault and domestic kidnapping of his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend Sunday morning. And you thought it was the Republicans who were waging a “war on women.”

But now it turns out that the solon’s driver’s license is non-renewable because he owes a 2011 City of Boston excise tax bill. Maybe that’s what he was discussing with U.S. Senate candidate Granny Warren on City Hall Plaza on the Fourth of July.

Granny, too, was an excise-tax scofflaw in Cambridge — until the Herald called her out on it.

But this nonpayment of taxes is endemic in the Democrat Party. They want YOU to pay higher taxes, but for themselves ... not so much.

Henriquez’s lawyer is one Stephanie Soriano-Mills. In an amazing coincidence, Soriano-Mills just happens to be the daughter-in-law of ex-Sen. Dianne Wilkerson. You may know Wilkerson better as 21757-038, which is her Bureau of Prisons number.

Until March 2014 she’s doing a bit for bribery, but her first federal rap was for failure to file income tax returns. She’s at the federal prison in Danbury, which once housed another state senator from Roxbury, Royal Bolling Sr.

His crime? You guessed it — income tax evasion.

It’s a small world when you’re cheating on your taxes. Rep. Johnny “Pockets” Tierney’s wife just did a month in prison last year — aiding and abetting the filing for false tax returns for her brother.

House Speaker Good Time Charlie Flaherty, the first of the three speaker felons in a row — felony tax evasion.

Then of course there was the Big Kahuna of Massachusetts tax cheats — U.S. Sen. John “Liveshot” Kerry. Remember his new $7 million yacht, which he registered in Newport in a failed attempt to beat the $437,500 state sales tax, not to mention the $70,000 annual excise tax in the town of Nantucket?

All of these people have D after their name. It stands for Democrat ... and deadbeat.

Then there’s Rep. David Linsky of Natick. He’s on YouTube, telling the people of Ohio not to trust Mitt Romney because “he raised the tax burden on each family, $1,200 per person.”

Well, not exactly on everybody. Not on David Linsky, because he didn’t bother to file any income tax returns in 2002 and 2003 until he was called out by the Herald. (Notice a trend here?)

Same thing with Rep. Ben Swan of Springfield. He was busted by this newspaper for not filing income tax returns in 2003. Later, he paid his property taxes after his local newspaper told him he was delinquent.

Now you know why Tony Henriquez is described as an “up-and-coming” rep. He’s like all the rest of them at the State House.
