“And I suppose all your future property taxes are paid in full?”
I doubt he’s paid for his food yet either. That’s not his point - it’s that his future costs are relatively small and manageable, since he isn’t living the opulent, debt-ridden, lifestyle. It’s amazing how little people can live on, if they actually try to live that way.
You are correct, I have taken steps in the last few years to try to insure that my wife and I can do OK. I was orphaned at an early age, and my grandparents raised me on a small farm not far from where I live now. They were both born in the late 1880’s,and always lived a very conservative lifestyle. They both lived through 2 world wars and the depression, and knew how to “get by” and enjoy life at the same time. They told me several times that the hardest times for them was WWII, because they had all three of their sons in it.
