Civil Disobedience: Dallas Gay Couple Arrested after being denied marriage license

An image that could easily be mistaken for coming out of St. Petersburg, Russia has emerged from Dallas, Texas, where a couple was arrested for attempting to obtain a marriage license. Details follow.

Mark "Major" Jiminez and Beau Chandler were lead out of the Dallas County Clerk's Office on Thursday in handcuffs. The couple applied for a marriage license and refused to leave the office after being denied based on their sexual orientation.

The Dallas Voice reports:

Once in the license bureau on Thursday afternoon, Chandler and Jiminez filled out the paperwork. Chandler crossed out the word “bride” and wrote “not applicable.”

Before being called to the counter, the couple sat waiting next to a straight couple also applying for a license. Jiminez explained to them why they were there, and the couple wished them luck.

“God bless you,” Regina Johnson said to Jiminez and Chandler. “Good luck. You’re in our prayers.”

Clerk’s assistant Melinda Saavedra called Jiminez and Chandler and asked for their IDs. She checked to make sure one wasn’t there as a proxy.

“We pointed out subsection B that invalidates all marriages,” Chandler said. He was referring to the constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage in Texas. “She got teary-eyed when I said we love each other and want to get married.”

The couple then handcuffed themselves to each other and took a seat on the floor of the office where the reminded journalists about the many rights heterosexual couples receive with marriage that are denied to same-sex couples.

"This is about not being treated equal," Jiminez told reporters on hand.

The couple was then lead out of the office by police and arrested.

While the exact charges the men face are unclear, if prosecuted for criminal trespassing they risk 180 days in jail and a hefty fine.

“Angry perverts!”

Not just angry, but shrewd and stealthy and on a public mission to sway media and public opinion.

You'd rather pretend gay activists aren't performing street theater to advance their agenda? They've been pulling this crap for decades...and it's worked. We're better off informed.

Yes, that is my point: We ignore this sort of tactic at our own peril, because it has in fact been extremely effective in swaying a large part of the population. The story about Google’s massive global pro-same sex marriage campaign attests to the fact that sheer force of numbers continues to be at work here.

Moreover, this piece did appear in other publications, notwithstanding that I was directed to it via a gay publication. To take information only from one’s own side is to come up short much of the time. Peter LeBarbara of AFTAH (Americans for Truth About Homosexuality) has come up with some of his best commentary pieces by trawling through the most radical pro-gay publications.

In any case, I expect what this couple did in Dallas to become “all the rage” with gay couples who are bent on pushing same sex marriage through “by any means necessary.”

The “civil disobedience” tactic employed here - no matter how phony or transparent - is dangerous precisely because it has such deep roots in the American tradition. Something to be on guard about, certainly.

I see a lot of posts on this and other threads saying "Why do you post this {expletive} on FR from {those people.}"

I thought it was Nathan Bedford, but search shows it's wku man who appends "Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!" to all his posts.

What the hell does that mean if not "Go out and engage the enemy!?!?"

Is FR supposed to be a campfire where we all sit around and bury our heads in the sand? (Sorry for the mixed metaphor.)

Zen question: Which is louder - the FR echo chamber or the sound of one hand zotting?

Yes, the list of top gay cities grows ever... and they have their eyes on the suburban and rural areas too. Their master plan has been nothing if not successful.

@ old school:
it seems that because the piece as written including headline and text was from a very decidedly PRO-gay perspective, you assumed that I posted it in the same vein. But it is sometimes the most pro-gay pieces which need to be posted to those who will view them from a truer and more perceptive and critical perspective. (as are true of many Pro-Obama pieces which for that very reason belong here for examination and criticizing). On FR, it is not the pieces which are posted but rather the discourse, reaction and feedback which follow which are important.

“God bless you,” Regina Johnson said to Jiminez and Chandler. “Good luck. You’re in our prayers.”

The bigger problem are the so-called "Christians" like this.

“The bigger problem are the so-called “Christians” like this.”

You said it, brother - and this is exactly the sort of “Christian” mercy and tenderness which gay advocates are banking on when they very strategically orchestrate events such as this arrest in Dallas.

Further proof that this is a part of a bigger plan, from the Daily Kos’ coverage of the incident:

“These arrests could be the first step in a lawsuit in the Lone Star State to achieve marriage equality for all citizens of Texas, or at the very least get Texas’ very poorly worded and highly unconstitutional anti-marriage amendment struck down.”

Free Republic has just emerged from a crisis in which it very nearly took the wrong path to its own destruction.

This forum has the potential to be a profound influence on America's political culture. It can only fulfill that potential if it lives its conservatism as well as preaches it. That means that we must never be afraid to confront liberal ideas with real conservative principles.

Every time we veer off onto a jihad of ZOT we are effectively telling the world we are afraid to contest liberal lies with our conservative principles. We must never duck the contest of ideas.

One can only hope that we have learned something from our recent experience.

Yes, as you are aware, you have the wrong poster, my handle says:

Lurker rant ahead...please ignore if you wish :)

Sir or Madame, I fear that it's attitudes like yours that have lead us to this world-wide vile situation. "Who cares? What business is this of ours? I know nice gays and you're just a hater. Why post this drivel? Aren't there more important things to talk about?"

Many “old schoolers” understand and even some of us “new schoolers” do as well. A bunch of “old schoolers” let this happen by sticking their collective heads in the sand, ignoring the free-love movement, militant feminism, codified political correctness, institutionalized misandry/misogyny/heterophobia, no-fault divorces, drive-through quickie marriages, the government being the daddy for millions of children born out-of-wedlock or abandoned by their parents, homo-adoptions and civil unions/same-sex "marriage".

It's going to get worse. Legalized polygamy? Lowering the sexual age of consent to 12? It's coming and more.

This world hasn't hit bottom yet, but we have to at least be informed and try to fight cultural decay.

It's a darned shame that so many on this site don't care about social issues. Money, money, money is what many people are concerned about, yet who can blame them with this terrible economy? But some Freepers do get it right on issues of constitutional liberties and the like, and this is one of those important issues!

It's just unfortunate that threads on say, abortion, rarely gather more than 50 posts, but put up an article on Danica Patrick or some young, hot teacher banging a 15 year old, and posts run into the hundreds.

Ever since Mary Cheney's "immaculate conceptions" and her phony marriage to an older woman who groomed her from youth, a lot of Freepers shrugged and posted nary a word. Most just said, "I'm so happy for them. Oh bless them, they're so wealthy, their kids will be fine. And besides, with the great Dick Cheney as a father figure the kids will be all right."

It's obvious where the wind blows on this issue. People don't care because as long as it doesn't affect them personally, what the big deal?

My dad's youngest brother destroyed his life through homosexuality, left his family and children, engaged in casual sex, died of AIDS and broke his poor mother's heart, for she loved him dearly as he was her baby boy. Is that what people want for their loved ones? But hey, legalizing same-sex marriage will get rid of all those problems, of course, so why worry?

This issue affects everyone. Politically from hate crime laws to adoptions to taxation, to reorganizing the military, to Human Rights Tribunals, to forcing religious institutions to contradict their beliefs, to brainwashing young children into believing sex is not concrete but fluid "gender", to sexual abuse of youth, to re-creating society as we know it.

But hey, it's just crap to you. Thanks scottjewell for posting this.

And thank you very kindly, for a forceful and well-executed defense of social conservatism. God bless you for caring as you do.

“mission to sway media and public opinion.”
When perverted homosexuals can reproduce. Then they will be equal to heterosexuals! Even one cell organisms can reproduce. Yet nature made it impossible for perverted homosexuals to reproduce. So let the perverts get angry!
