Nor do I, except I got it once.....in the eyes.
I wore contacts, needed new prescription, new doc put me on different brand with different solutions. About a week later I was working an ATC radar position when WHAM....suddenly felt like I had been stabbed in eye by an ice pick, quickly took contacts out & pain subsided. Doc said that something had activated a herpes virus (said everybody has scads of different ones, but are usually not active). Had to give up contacts, a real bummer as glasses are a pain in the butt for fishing and hunting.
So I take laymen's statements about herpes (and lots of other things) with a grain of salt.
Actually, I do know something about viruses. My aged mother once got shingles - a horrible painful episode.
Apparently, everyone who once had chicken pox has the potential to be afflicted with shingles... she actually wanted to die - my sister and I spent the time with her round the clock in the hospital then. I thought she was going to die.
Her medicine? The same medicine people use for herpes.
