Million Big Gulp March Takes Aim At Bloombergs Proposed Big Drink Ban July 9, 2012 11:14 AM
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) A rally will be held Monday against Mayor Michael Bloombergs proposed ban on super-sized sugary drinks.
About 1,000 protesters chanting Drink Free Or Die are expected to take part in the Million Big Gulp March in City Hall Park at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Business owners, local politicians and others against the proposed ban are all expected to take part, according to NYC Liberty HQ spokesman Zach Huff.
The Million Big Gulp March is about more than just the size of drinks, it is our long-overdue response to a governing ideology that thinks it can tell us what fat we can cook with, how much popcorn we can buy, whether we can use table salt or even how much water we can bathe with and use in each flush, Huff said in a statement. Its astonishing to see a pro-choice mayor be so anti-choice when it comes to trivial personal decisions.
Bloomberg officially proposed the ban to the Board of Health last month.
The proposal would put a 16-ounce limit of sugary drinks sold at city restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues and street carts and would apply to both bottled and fountain drinks.
It would not include grocery or convenience stores that dont serve prepared food and wouldnt apply to diet soda, other calorie-free drinks or anything that has at least 50 percent milk or milk substitute.

Mastermind for this idea??.. Local 7-11 owner. LOL!
I hope they get way more than 1,000. FREEEEEEEEEDOM!
They can have my Big Gulp when they pry it from my cold dead hands.
Okay, I don’t really drink those things, but I’ll respect the right of others who want to.
Just take your business and get the hell out of NYC or California. It’s not worth it, and you’ll be happier and less stressed.
I am confused about something. Under what authority does a Mayor have to outlaw a certain drink size?
my pre-written response to all things Bloomberg:
Bloomers is a Crony-capitalist, nebbish, poor little rich boy, self hating jew, tiny buttwipe of a man...the only reason he is probably not a fag (the jury is still out) is that he has the greatest aphrodisiac of all time, billions of dollars....he decries the 2nd amendment, but whines about how the enemys first amendment rights to worship are being usurped....even though Islam is NOT a religion but a murder cult.....and dont get me started on salt, transfats, cigarettes and sugar

What’s funny about this is that “Big Gulps” are specifically excluded from the proposed nanny-state beverage ban. The proposed ban does not apply to grocery stores and convenience stores like 7-11.
Which, of course, just goes to show how arbitrary and idiotic the ban is. It applies to delis, but not grocery stores. Anyone who has ever been to New York (and gone outside of Times Square/usual tourist areas) knows that there are thousands, if not tens-of-thousands of stores in NYC that are called some variation of “___________ Deli & Grocery Store.” Are these places covered? I guess it depends on how they are classified (read: how much they bribe the inspector to call them a “grocery store”)
if they can only get 1000 for this but 25,000 for OWS, Gotham is doomed.
Why don’ t they sell 32 oz cups for $.03, and 2 16 oz drinks (that they can conveniently use their new cup for) for $.99?
