Gay-rights backers woo young conservative Republicans
Washington Times ^ | July 10 2012 | Cheryl Wetzstein

Gay-rights supporters are openly rallying sympathizers who until now may have been content to stay in the closet - young conservative Republicans.

“Freedom and family are core conservative values,” said conservative gay activist Margaret Hoover, a leader of a new campaign called Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry.

“We have a historic opportunity to reaffirm these.. values by supporting the fundamental freedom to marry... ” ...

Other members of Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry leadership... said they expect their new group to inspire other young conservatives “to ... “accelerate” the acceptance of same-sex marriage.

However, the leader of a national organization fighting to preserve one-man, one-woman marriage said there is no evidence of grass-roots support for gay marriage among conservatives.

“It’s not conservative to want to undermine marriage,” said Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage.

“One of the core pillars of conservatism is protecting and uplifting marriage as the union of a man and a woman” - and all major conservative thinkers - “the fountainhead of American conservatism” - were agreed on that, he said. “It doesn’t represent the grass roots, I can tell you that.”

The new campaign is part of Freedom to Marry, an organization founded in 2003 by gay activist and attorney Evan Wolfson ...

...youth have indeed been led to accept, unquestioned, certain “liberal paradigms” about homosexuality by the media, entertainment and in academia, Peter Sprigg, senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, said...

But “it’s an oxymoron to say that you’re a conservative for same-sex marriage,” said Mr. Sprigg. People “may be conservative on other issues, but changing the definition of marriage to allow same-sex couples to marry is not conservative by any possible definition of the word. That’s a radical redefinition of marriage and family.”

They seem pretty certain to get Romneycare as the GOP nominee, the man who instituted gay marriage in Massachusetts after it was rejected by both the legislature and the judiciary. Also the man who promised the homosexuals on television that he would sign a bill forcing the boy scouts to accept gay scoutmasters if they could get it to his desk.

Yes, it is a shock that after Obama, the GOP has a chance for change, and they run someone like Romney.

“it’s an oxymoron to say that you’re a conservative for same-sex marriage,”

Cannot be said enough. Fiscal conservatism alone is not enough.

I am respectful, generally of Republicans, but MARGARET HOOVER is an utter piece of garbage; and her husband, John Avlon, another ultra RINO, is not much better.

Shame, because her great grandpa was a great American, who would not have stood for this kind of nonsense:

President Herbert Hoover!

“We have a historic opportunity to reaffirm these.. values by supporting the fundamental freedom to marry...

there is no fundamental freedom to marry.
Never has been.
Marriage has always been controlled by law and regulation.
You can not marry your sister, you can not marry a child, you can not marry a dog, etc..
You have the right along with every other human being to marry a human being of proper age of the opposite sex. Equal rights.
Deal with it.....

Beautifully expressed; thank you; no gay per...no homosexual person has EVER been prohibited from marrying a member of the opposite sex; EVER!
