It's always enlightening to hear Milton Friedman speak about the ability of capitalism and freedom to supply medical care to consumers at lower cost and higher quality than government. In this speech from the late 1970s (divided into 6 videos), Friedman touches on many important points: the Flexner Report, government licensing of physicians, the AMA, the FDA, and socialized medicine in the UK and Sweden.

Any health care reform or plan is vacuous unless it includes comprehensive tort reform.
People are rightfully concerned about the government getting between them and their doctor. What they don’t realize is how driven the doctors, pharma, med device manufacturers, and insurance companies are by lawyers.
Considering most politicians are themselves lawyers, I don’t hold out much hope that they will censure their own but we can hope for change can’t we?

Lawyers are the commissars of American-style Socialism.

The Law? They make it up as they go - much like good Leninists.

Sorry to break the bad news to you but Uncle Milton was not purposing freedom from all accountability. “People should be responsible for the harm the do,” was his quote. In fact he believed the tort system was the vital element to holding in check the natural inclination for the business entity to do great evil.

Funning how some people are so against big government and regulation but the first place they go when seeking protection from market forces is to the government. Please protect me from being sued they cry.

No, Uncle Milton believe in the Freedom to Sue too.
